Lady Gaga, effectively stepping in for Jessica Lange, has gotten most of the early publicity for her extended acting debut. After an hour, it remains to be seen how Gaga will handle extended dialogue or emotional volatility, but she's initially just being asked to embody a visual conceit, which she does convincingly. She struts in high fashion with confidence, she does near-nudity without self-consciousness and she has a feral resemblance to Nosferatu star Max Schreck, which might seem accidental except that several characters attend a cemetery screening of the F.W. Murnau classic.

Yeah, as excited as I'm getting (y'all can finally hop off cuz I'm not gonna keep battling you all even though I still genuinely question if Gaga can act or not and my entire opinion hinges on the answer to that question that we may not even get on Wednesday), I'm not buying this.

Reviews are complimenting her acting but then say she has minimal lines and is mostly a visual entity? And not even a Spalding type of mute character, but basically a glorified model (see the bold part).

That's fishy to me.

She's probably better than the girl in your avi . Anyway they arent probably reviewing her acting that much because she doesnt appea on the whole first episode.

See, I'm actually starting to like the idea of Gaga in the show, too, but these reviews aren't helping. They're lowkey cryptic, and make no sense.

Odd, cuz we're not talking about Queen Emma (who's a fantastic actress given the right material, anyway), but it still wasn't shade towards Gaga so I fail to see the reason for such hostility.

And that still doesn't make any sense. They can review everyone's acting from the first episode. I'd actually expect Gaga's to be the easiest to read at first since she's allegedly the lead/main character. But we'll see in the future.

Acting is like 1/2 stage presence and physicality, so I don't see why their compliments are a bad thing. I'm sure her delivery will be decent-good, but we should at least be thankful that she's adding some gusto to this season considering the snoozefest we endured last season.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. But I don't that they say that her main asset so far is her as a visual entity when Gaga already is known for her outfits and physical/visual attributes while her actual acting (and how it separates the Countess from her) is still kind of up in the air.

I have a feeling Ryan is/was just slowly working her to the point where she is/was comfortable. It's her first time acting and he put a lot on her shoulders.

Her character the first few episodes will probably not be as involved as the later episodes. Not to mention they are establishing everyone. I'm alright with her character not saying much now and then spiraling into something deeper later if that's how Ryan wants to spin it. Just make sure it makes sense and works.

I think a lot of the reviews are talking more so about her presence on the episode rather than acting.

Not even trying to be shady or catty with this, but I think having her in the main cast as the lead character of a 13-episode popular series might be a mistake if it's an issue.

He should've had her have a Chester-sized role for an episode or two to test the waters.

He's taking a gamble, we'll see if it'll turn out in a day or two. If she sucks, well, lol, we won't have to worry about any flop movies anytime soon lol. I have some faith. Guess we'll just sit tight till then.

I still think it's just his inner Little Monster that made him go all out with her like this, but I thought that was obvious.

Didn't she study acting at Tisch for a year or so? I think she'll be fine as long as she does what she's required to do. I don't know why but I feel as though she'll either get blamed if the show doesn't do well or get all the "credits" if it ends up being a hit.
