Because there's a huge divide between political parties regarding opinions on guns and neither side wants to give/compromise, so nothing gets done. Political polarization is actually increasing here.

In the UK I'm assuming the majority of politicians and the majority of the public were in favor of such a ban. In the USA that's not the case.

That's not true. No one thinks it is OK. There is just a drastic disagreement as to how they can be prevented.

Many conservatives believe that more guns equals less crime. That's how they would combat mass shootings.

This is ridiculous. It's time the gov finally cracks down on gun control. Though its going to be a hard battle, since there's going to be so much push back from conservatives with stocks in the gun market.
