"England", the tenth song on High Violet is as flawless as the country it's named after. The National really know how to build up an atmosphere, beginning with only a piano, the song builds gracefully until an intense climax of drums as Matt repeatedly chants: "Afraid of the house, stay the night with the sinners". An excellent victory lap for an already great album.
Best bit: The whole song. Best lyrics: Basically the entire song but "You must be somewhere in London / walking Abbey Lane / I don't even think to make corrections" (get it?)
