Batch II.
Gavin. - Lonely Here Alone
I like this. To me it feels more like a first draft with lots of potential. Add in a solid pre-chorus and bridge to tie everything together (perhaps even an extended chorus) and you're on the right track.
ughgabriel - Confusing Illusion
Probably my favourite song you've posted here. You've kept your thing (well it's what I associate with you, anyway ) of having somewhat mismatched lines and interesting rhyme schemes, but you've got that chorus which ties everything together this time and it really does elevate it. There's some really great lyrics here, love the bridge. Super solid work.
EatmeZayn - Cant Let Go (my title)
Am I getting subtle Lana influences? I think I might be. Honestly, it's a really solid work. I do know that you've been involved in PH before (not either of my seasons ) and I can see why you did well. There are some rhymes which fall more on the predictable side, but otherwise, it's a good song overall.
??? - Take A Look
This five minute pop perfection tho.
Now there's regular posts I need to catch up on, loving this activity!

I wrote a pre-chorus and chorus for another song. I know it's pretty generic without verses, but I'm working on it. Think pop-rock/j-pop production. Thoughts and comments are welcome on this, too!
Devil May Care
[Pre-chorus]
We're gonna burn in hell,
Our life is sin
No matter what we do,
We'll never win
[Chorus]
So, forget what they think they know
It's time we love and let it show,
Come on, let's do it on a dare
Kiss me, the devil may care

Like a predator, baby
I been preyin on you (all night)
You'll be all on me
Tho you say it ain't true (But I'm)
A predator, baby
And I always get the kill
Predator, baby
And I'll mold you to my will
This is the chorus I just wrote down for the song I posted a little back. I'm probably gonna edit it so it doesn't sound like rape.

I'm NOT a quick song writer. I over analyse everything and I always take probably at least an hour to write a song. 5 minute songs are just not for me.

EpicSongFan - Fragile
Minor note, thank you for using the more unpredictable "gaze"/"maze" rhyme rather than the cliche and predictable "haze"/"daze". In general though, the verse is bordering on the predictable side and there are some problems ("all you did was apologized" doesn't sound right). Second verse is much stronger. The chorus is simple which is nice, but I think it could be bigger, if only for the second and final chorus. I like the bridge too. A well put-together song.
EpicSongFan - Nightfall
Already this song is better than the last, not as much cliche/predictable language. My only main problem from the first half is the use of "break free" in both the verse and pre-chorus. When writing for PH don't include annotations like (Instrumental), by the way. I love this chorus though, fantastic work.
EpicSongFan - Denial
This was almost going to get a "No flaws." comment from me until I reached the hook. I get what you're going for, but eh, I'm still against "Ooh, ooh, oohs" in songs. Technically, they're not lyrics. I get that they make catchy songs catchy, but they drag down lyrically impressive songs. I hope that makes sense. Otherwise it's honestly perfect for me.
EpicSongFan - Reverberate & The Recovery
This is nice. I've already commented on the Ooh's and the (Instrumental)'s, that still stands. There was a bit of a problem with the first verse (these should be this). The rest of it is good though.
EpicSongFan - Hope
Love the meaning of the song. There are some problems though, like "robbed away from it". There's the ooh's and instrumental's again. But you avoided some more obvious rhymes which I liked ("dust/trust" rather than "rust"). Not your strongest song out of this batch but I still enjoyed it!
I'll post more comments in another batch.

Thank you for the comment
Your reply on 'Fragile'
Thank you on this comment I wrote the song's chorus months before the completion of the entire song. Somehow, the simplistic words just stuck with me. I agree with the cliche lyrics tho I finished the entire thing at 7 in the morning and I referred to a rhyming dictionary that I found in my home This song was more focused on the vocals than the lyrical content at the time when I wrote this song tbh nn.
Your reply on 'Nightfall'
Thank you once again for spending the time to type all of these out I have to agree with the first verse being a little off. I kinda rushed the first verse to completion because I wanted to release my album in CAL already coz I've postponed the album for 8-10 months ngl And yeah, understood on the annotations part
Your reply on 'Denial'
This is totally unexpected I wasn't expecting this comment at all It is the more underrated one in my opinion. I didn't spend a lot of time on it, but I didn't really rush it either so maybe that's why.
Your reply on 'Reverberate & The Recovery'
Reverberate is more like an outro of the entire album and The Recovery is like a hidden track When you said the problems with the first verse, I presume you mean the one from Reverberate?
Your reply on Hope
Thank you on this as well. I kinda rushed this song as well. Thanks for the comment as well
And yeah, most of the annotations and Oooh, Ahhs were because I was writing it for CAL, which has its own radio charts and needs more description for each song These are my ideas I've wrote for each song. It is quite long tho cause I knew what direction I wanted to take for each song until I couldn't stop typing So I think I broke the collapse button on some of these so I have to quote some of it All these songs with the exception of Hope were written on Mariah's perspective nnn.

'Fragile' is a soul piano ballad song which has a very stripped-downed production. Vocally, Mariah sounds very fragile (No pun intended), as if she was going to cry and break anytime soon. Her vocals on the track is reminisce of her vocals during the "Butterfly" era, where she utilizes a mixture of whispery voice and a raspy tone to go along on the song. Produced by James "Big Jim" Wright and Mariah Carey, the production is compared to Mariah's previous piano ballads like 'Cry.', 'Camouflage' and 'Vanishing'. The whole production only features a piano and backing vocals throughout.
Written by Mariah Carey herself, the intro of the song begins with a nostalgic grand piano riff that showcases Mariah Carey singing add-libs and doing some runs before the first verse begins. Mariah was heard singing in a heartfelt way as she sang about how her lover used to catch her heart with "just one gaze" but to only leave her "in a maze". The first verse touches upon Mariah feeling the pain that was inflicted by her lover as she sang in her middle register, to be only accompanied by the grand piano. As Mariah transitions into the first chorus, Mariah continues to to sing in an emotional, heartfelt way as she begs her lover to stay with her and comfort her as she is fragile. Light, subtle backing vocals backed Mariah up during the first chorus.
As Mariah transitions into the second verse of the song, the first part of the second verse describes about her lover knew that she's like a china vase, something very fragile and at the same time, valuable. However, she was quickly replaced by another person. Mariah continued to sing in an emotional, heartfelt way. It was not until the second part of the second verse, that Mariah begins to belt about how she wishes she could recapture the times they first fell in love. Mariah create some intentional vocal breaks to add the emotional tension within the song. As Mariah reaches the second chorus, she sang it the same way like the first chorus, in a heartfelt and emotional way. This time, the backing vocals were a little more stronger compared to the first chorus which continues the emotional tension of the song.
Mariah then transitions from the second chorus into the bridge of the song, where Mariah asks a series of questions. For the first question, Mariah sang it in an emotional way. However with each following question, Mariah sings an octave higher than before until the song reaches its peak. The backing vocals also grew louder and louder with each line sung. Mariah then transitions into the final chorus of the song, where she utilizes her raspy part of her voice as she sung the lines of the chorus. Her utilizing her raspy part of her voice evokes a disappointing tone, as if she was telling and asking her ex-lover for the final time. The grand piano plays simple chords this time, in contrast to the other parts of the song, where the piano was played in a very intricate way.
The song then ends with the piano being played while the backing vocals keep repeating subtly in the background as the song ends. It seems like Mariah is more focused on emoting the emotions for this song. Despite its simplistic chorus, Mariah managed to make it effective through her emotional vocals that she put out within the chorus. The song is definitely one of her most emotional songs in a very long time, and is a standout from the other ballads on the album.

'Nightfall' is an alternative R&B song with a strong hard hitting electronic sound and a hip-hop driven drum beat. It is mid-tempo in style and draws inspiration from songs like Dawn Richard's 'Titans' interlude in terms of its rhythm. Overall, the hard-hitting hip-hop driven drum beats on the song makes it sound more intense, and sounds like it could easily fit in onto a Kanye West album. Vocally, her vocals gives out an angry vibe throughout as Mariah utilizes her middle range to sing this mid-tempo electronic-influenced alternative R&B song. Her vocals shows a feeling of angst and adds to the song's emotions.
Written by Mariah Carey herself, the lyrics touches upon a cheating lover using the 'nightfall' as a way to blind her from finding out the truth. The song talks about the protagonist finding out about the cheating and describes how she is being blinded in the process. She uses metaphors of darkness such as 'night' and 'deserted' to describe nightfall. "Mariah Carey is definitely one of the greatest artists I've worked with in quite a while. She definitely knows what she is doing and has a clear vision of the song", AraabMuzik says when asked about collaborating with Mariah.
Produced by AraabMuzik, Malay Ho and Mariah Carey, the intro begins with electronic synths playing in the background as a haunting atmospheric sound begins to surround the song which gives the listeners chills in the back of their spine. The first verse of the song begins with Mariah first singing in a haunting way as the electronic synths and the haunting atmospheric sound continues to play to make the overall tension build up. During the near end of the first verse, the hard hitting hip-hop drum beat kicks in, before the song transitions into the first chorus of the song. The hip-hop sound and style helps in creating a sense of emotion throughout the song to make Mariah's feeling of anger and disappointment stand out more. Mariah then sang in a different way in comparison to the first verse, which showed Mariah's anger and disappointment. During the first chorus of the song, hard electronic synths and hip-hop drum beats came in at full force as it was continually backed up by the atmospheric sound to continue building the tension.
During the second verse, the electronic synths take the secondary role and blended into the background while the hip-hop drum beat remains the same by being at the forefront. This part continues into the second chorus, only to change during the bridge, where the hip-hop drum beat vanishes for a moment. Mariah was then heard to be singing in a sultry tone as the haunting atmospheric sound became more and more prominent to continue building the overall tension. Haunting backing vocals such as "Ooh" and "Aah" was heard during the bridge as well. The final chorus then kicks in as Mariah belts in full force. The overall musical tension is released in the final chorus, with the atmospheric sound gone this time. The song then ends with an soft alternative R&B beat playing in the background along with haunting electronic synths before the song fades into the next song.

Originally posted by My idea on Denial's sound
'Denial' is a downtempo alternative R&B song that talks about feeling conflicted in a love relationship. Written by Mariah Carey, and Manuel Seal, 'Denial' talks about the feeling of being in denial as a relationship has ended. Overall, the song is more mellow in style compared to the previous track, 'Nightfall'. However, the song is more chaotic than 'Nightfall' production-wise despite the song being more mellow in style. In terms of rhythm, the song could be compared to her song, 'Faded', which is a mid-tempo ballad in style.
Co-produced by The Weeknd and Mariah Carey, the production features a smooth R&B beat with a clashing electronic synths as well as a shuddering bass line that would leave a memorable impression on listeners. The clashing production found in the song was to represent the conflicted feelings Mariah was feeling throughout. The song begins with an atmospheric vibe as Mariah could be heard murmuring in the background of the song, which sounds almost like a whisper. The atmospheric vibe begins to get louder and louder before a haunting electronic synth begins to play loudly in the background for a moment to signify that the song has officially begun before the electronic synth fades into the background, supporting Mariah's vocals as she sings the first verse of the song. During the first verse, Mariah sings in a way that make her sounds like she's given up. As the song progresses into the pre-chorus of the song, a haunting baseline kicks in which creates a tension in the song before it is let out in the chorus. During the first chorus of the song, Mariah Carey begins to sing in a fragile way as the productions of the song take the spotlight, with the clashing electronic synth, the haunting bassline and a prominent R&B drum beat was heard.
During the hook of the song, Mariah's vocals become a little more prominent as her vocals compliment the clashing production. Also, a lot of backing vocals were added during the hook. As the song transitions into the second verse, the production of the song quickly dissipates into the background a little, making Mariah's vocals stand out. However, the pre-chorus was not present this time and the second verse quickly transitions into the second chorus of the song. During the second chorus, the electronic synth and an atmospheric vibe was only heard during the first two lines of the chorus. The production came in full force once again during the third line of the chorus and being at the forefront while Mariah's vocals take the backseat. As the song transitions into the bridge of the song, the production strips away, leaving Mariah's vocals to be at the forefront of the song.
The bridge of the song serves as a buildup for the final chorus, with the production of the song slowly building up, leading to the final chorus. As the final chorus arrives, the production begins to take over a little. However, Mariah seems to have finally sounded a little clearer. This represent Mariah's decision to speak out that she is in denial during the final chorus, while the other two choruses were to represent Mariah's feeling from her heart. The song then transitions into the final hook of the song, as clashing R&B beats and basslines begin to cover the entire song. Mariah belted out with all her heart during the hook before the song slowly fades out with the atmospheric vibe remaining, and transitions into the next song.

My idea on Reverberate & The Recovery
The electronic synths from 'Echoes' segues into 'Reverberate (The Outro)', which serves as the outro for the album. The outro of the song consists of only one verse in which Mariah sings about wondering whether she will continue to stay in misery or will be be able to escape the pain and be liberate from it. The outro begins with a haunting bass and synths that surrounds the whole song. The synths were reminisce of Miguel's 'Coffee' song's intro. Mariah's inaudible voice could be heard in the background. Mariah's vocals here is reminisce of the vocals on the 'Storm' interlude, where her voice sounds like to was sung through an old device as the audio surrounding her voice was crackly. However, her vocals here sounds very futuristic with the added effects that were added onto her voice. A haunting atmospheric sound covers the whole song to create an emotional tension throughout the entire song. Throughout the entire song, the instrumental slowly grows louder and louder before it fades out half a minute after Mariah sings the line, "Let this reverberate."
The song then slowly transitions into the hidden track entitled, 'The Recovery'. All the atmospheric vibe, electronic sound and tension dissipates. 'The Recovery' is a mid-tempo R&B song with strong Soul and Gospel influences in it. Written by Mariah Carey and James "Big Jim" Wright, the hidden track talks about Mariah's recovery from all the pain, loneliness and sorrow she was experiencing throughout most of the album tracks. To give a more seamless transition, the hidden track begins with a spoken verse where Mariah speaks about how she "let it all to fate". However, she was saved and was guided to freedom. During the first verse of the hidden track, Mariah wonders about what she has gained, other than sadness and grief. During the pre-chorus, Mariah sings about her kneeling down and praying to God before she heard a voice speaking out to her. During the chorus, Mariah begins to realize that she shouldn't continue to delve into the pain and sadness, and recover.
During the second verse, Mariah speaks about how she remains standing strong, even though she has lost a part of herself from within. During the pre-chorus, the lyrics were slightly different to represent the reason how Mariah managed to get over the pain and grief. During the second chorus of the hidden track, Mariah sings the chorus twice before she transitions into the bridge, where Mariah sings about how she got the strength from God when she was weak and gave her the comfort that she seeked. She then sings the pre-chorus lines with slightly different lyrics to represent Mariah getting over everything that has been holding her down. After singing the pre-chorus lines, the choir sings, "That I'll be brand new!" before Mariah sings the final chorus. Soon after, Mariah enters the outro of the song, where Mariah sings about how free she feels, before the song fades out with the choir singing, "That's when I recover" five times before Mariah ends the song with her thanking the Lord.
Produced by James "Big Jim" Wright and Mariah Carey, the song features a prominent grand piano, prominent drum beats, as well as a strong choir in the song. The song begins with a grand piano riff in the background, following Mariah's short spoken verse. During the first verse, only the grand piano and some backing vocals were backing Mariah up. However, the piano and the backing vocals showcases a feeling of despair which fits the lines of the first verse. When the song transitions into the first pre-chorus, however, the piano and the backing vocals that was backing Mariah up changes key and showcases a slight tinge of hope. During the first chorus of the song, Mariah was continued to be backed up by these two instruments as Mariah sings the chorus with her lower, husky part of her vocal register. After Mariah finishes the lines, the grand piano takes the spotlights as slight, muffled drum beats could be heard in the background. This part could be compared to one of Foxes' song, 'Count The Saints', where the chorus features a piano playing in the background as muffled drum beats could be heard during its first chorus.
As the second verse arrives, the production becomes a little different as the grand piano changes key and the inclusion of prominent drum beats, which represented Mariah's slow recovery. The second pre-chorus is also different, with the drum beats suddenly dissipating and the grand piano playing only simplistic chords of the song as Mariah sings the lines to it. Everything comes in full force during the transition into the second chorus, including the choir. This part could be compared to Emeli Sande's 'Heaven', where the chorus is upbeat and the drum beat is prominent. Mariah begins to sing an octave higher during the second chorus as well, which would be in a straight-forward way. The chorus quickly transitions into the bridge of the song, where Mariah begins to sings normally before she belts the part, "That's when I finally recover!/Leaving all the pain behind forever!" with full force as the choir began to pick up.
Soon after, everything begins to dissipate once again as Mariah is only backed up by some backing vocals as well as the grand piano. This part of the song is similar to the second pre-chorus of the song, where everything quiets down a little. However, the pianist played a piano riff of the song rather than simplistic chords of the song. As the bridge begins to end, the choir kicks in and sings the final line before the song transitions into the final chorus, where Mariah finally begins to overlap the chorus by belting in her upper register with full force. The final chorus then transitions into the outr of the song, where the productions quiet down a little, but still loud enough for the listeners to hear each instrument. Mariah sings the outro lines in a straight-forward way before the song goes into a section where the choir takes over. During this section, Mariah begins to showcase her beautiful tone and ability of riffing through. She did it in a way that doesn't sound over the top but at the same time, proves that Mariah manages to gain control of her voice. She then ends the song by belting out loud. The word "Lord" echoes slowly into the background before the song ends.
My idea on Hope
Written by Foxes and Giorgio Moroder, the song lyrically addresses Foxes' past relationship with a guy, where she was played around by this guy but she doesn't even know about it. During the chorus, she revealed that she was given "a ray of hope". However, the next line reveals that it was taken away from her, revealing the emptiness she feels after the breakup between her and this guy. Overall, the song speaks about a heartbreak experienced by Foxes herself and she can't get out of the pain. During the outro of the song, however, the lyrical content of the song turned towards a positive note, with Foxes speaking about her finally moving on from this relationship and that she has found new hope. When asked for a comment, Foxes revealed that this song was written during her songwriting session for Giorgio Moroder's album Deja Vu. "I actually wrote this song for Giorgio's album. However, when Giorgio listened to the song, he asked me to keep it because he he feels that the song would be better if kept with me for my upcoming record."
Produced by Giorgio Moroder and Foxes, the song is an uptempo synthpop song with prominent disco influences. The intro of the song begins with an orchestral-like intro, similar to the one from 'Wildstar', Foxes' collaboration with Giorgio. During the verses of the song, prominent synths and haunting basslines could be heard in the background of the song. The pre-choruses features strong backing vocals and disco synths added into the mix in order to build up tension towards the chorus. During the choruses, prominent disco synths take over as orchestral-like instruments, similar to the ones heard during the intro were heard in the background as Foxes sings in an emotional, raspy tone. After each chorus, an instrumental breakdown featuring strong disco synths could be heard. During the bridge, most of the productions dissipates as Foxes sings in a light, feathery voice as light disco synths were played in the background. During the outro of the song, the orchestral-like instruments become the prominent instrument as the disco synths take the backstage, giving the orchestral-like instrument to shine. Foxes also sang it with force as the backing vocals covers the entire track. The outro of the song is similar to Foxes' past songs like 'Echo', where the backing vocals and productions come in full force.

YESSSSS I'm officially permanently back to ATRL and am ready to compete in #PH8! Who are the judges/hosts? I came 4th in #PH6 and really want to beat my last position. Did anyone end up beating my highest scoring song record? #AHigherPower would've s**t on the charts.
Another goal is to hopefully judge a season!

First of all, welcome back!
I am the host. The judges will be revealed once the season starts.
I hate to burst your bubble, but your score wasn't a record; it was the highest scoring song of Season 6, but other songs had been scored higher in previous seasons.
Also yes. "A Higher Power" scored 9 and 1/6 stars, or 9.167 points. My song "Set Sail", which was the Song of the Season for S7 scored 9.24 points. But you should still be super proud of yourself! I got 4th last season... there must be a thing with the 4th place contestant getting the SOTS!
