do you mean apple music or iTunes Match? Apple Music only uploads them.

Isn't iTunes match ****ed up since the last update with Apple Music? I saw people complaining about it a lot.

Apple Music does the same as iTunes Match when you try to listen to it from a different device (i.e. it loads it from the itunes store to save time) however it does this on Match and Apple Music. So it's not working for me, unless the recordings I have can't be recognised and V$ is using different ones.

I don't think so; for example I added an alt mix of West Coast under the same tags, and it plays that version on both my Mac and iPhone.

There's a lot of variables, so it depends as to whether it can find a match. But if you put a song in your iTunes and do nothing with it then it should just match the version on your iPhone, it does it for me. But if you right click and click add to iCloud music then it'll copy the version you have on your mac.

Those are just the LQ ones though surely? (the faint cloud next to it means it won't be part of your library, usually because the quality is too low)

the cloud means iCloud hasn't processed them yet, but the cloud with a line says it won't upload burnt norton (that happened with some of my sonic youth songs, idk why)
