Keep in mind his fave is Justin who sold millions of albums with his last era so he's used to someone being successful and not underperforming.
Essentially, this era consists of
6+ months of pre-promo, (buzz songs that weren't apart of the album but increased anticipation Lookin A N, her features and Flawless remix) promo blitz week of album releasee, releases of Pills n potions, Anaconda, Only (featuring a list rappers who get #1 urban songs on their own), performed Bed of lies and host the EMAs, Truffle butter urban play (features a list rappers who get #1 urban songs on their own), Feelin myself, The night is still young and recently Trini dem girls alongside an actual pop hit for her feature on David guetta's hey mama.
So when you take the singles, the viral sensation that deserved a VOTY nomination according to the artist that didn't even direct the video, promo, award shows, radio interviews, tv interviews.
To get most of her certifications off of streaming and with other a listers more successful than she/features
to have all this push and promo
the result: Thrice blocked by Taylor (Anaconda/Shake it off hot 100, TPP/1989 billboard 200/Hey mama/Bad blood pop radio) and not yet 1M sales in the states OR WW.
Jcole, Kendrick and Drake getting 1/3 of the singles and 1/5 of the promo outsell her based on quality material. I think the critics ranked them higher but I'm not sure about that.
Overall, it's what many view as an underperforming era (nice way)/ flop (the mean way) and to only sell 100k more than the rival people claim is over doesn't help. Drake sold way more than Meek. Taylor sold way more than Katy.
And she will probably have one or two more songs which will go along with PFRRTRU which was released totaling 12 releases and 900k sold with TPP probably heading towards 800k sold with 8+ releases.
People that don't stan for Nicki but know these stats will call it a flop era...many will call it underperforming as she is already an A lister and at this point if pop was the reason for the backlash last era and now urban has her back what is the reason for all this push materializing to those results. At this point, people are either going to support her or not.
