Chart positions/peaks really don't matter in the long run. Toxic and Thriller are two songs that didn't have impressive peaks but have had amazing impact and longevity. That's why things like #1s are cute and all but not super important.

I wouldn't say they don't matter but I would say that there are other factors.
I mean was Hold it against me bigger than many top 3 hits. Of course not. Was crack a bottle bigger than many top 3 hits...of course not.
Same goes for #1 albums.
Sometimes it's just about timing but in any event longevity and the end result...the amount of weeks on a chart, the sales, the streams WW are better indicators which often time correlate with a high chart peak but sometimes a sleeper hit creeps in.
