So I mentioned yesterday that I was heading off into central London for Mariah Carey's new album playback session and from the 5 tracks I heard, only two of them I really liked, the rest thought were very average.

The 2 stand out tracks for me were:

Candy Bling - A nice slow smoothed out tune which had The Dream & Tricky Stewart's sound all over it for those of you who are familiar with their beats. However I can't see this track being a single, but a wicked album track.

I Want To Know What Love Is - This is Mariah's cover version of the 80's Classic originally recorded by Foreigner, this is easily a single and will be a world wide smash!

As for the other tracks I heard, none of them grabbed me at all, in fact some of them actually bored me if I'm honest with you. What we heard was only a few tracks that maybe on the album, but we were told the album is still in the making, so I'm looking forward to hearing more…

Stuffed my face with cucumber sandwiches and cup cakes at Mariah Carey's album playback! Liked it but not sure she has a killer single!
Though her cover of 'I want to know what love is' by the Foreigner could be a big hit! She needs a Fantasy-type smash!
They were quite dreamy and whispery. Bit like underneath the stars on Butterfly. Liked them but didn't hear a killer radio hit!

still needs an uptempo hit like Honey / Fantasy / Heartbreaker. That's not there from what I heard. Obsessed doesn't quite cut it

I hope the timbaland-produced track is an uptempo. Everything with The-Dream and Tricky is all mid-to-slow-tempo.

If you weren't fortunate to own The Dreams sophomore Love vs. Money, the track Put It Down features background percussion, clearly audible from Single Ladies, being the only instant to which identify any Tricky contribution.

If not, then it's just another bag of tricks from the legendary duo Dream/Tricky production-writing team

Another UK Review!

Salmon sandwiches (with the crusts cut off), fairy cakes and big glasses of chilled wine... Mariah Carey sure puts on a fine spread!
Company went to the very first, so-exclusive-you-have-to-hand-in-your-mobile-upon-entry, listening of the diva's new music at the rather posh Artesian Bar in the Langham Hotel, London last night. We got to hear the first six tracks from the studio - including Obsessed, the first single currently being played on every radio station. And we have good news! it sounds like her new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel will see her go back to the classic style we fell in love with back in the 90s. And then a Hero comes along...The full album isn't out in the shops until 14th September, but in the meantime we can tell you about Candy Bling, a super soulful, breathy song with some high-power vocals in between, Obsessed - rumoured to be about Eminem, you'll probably know this one already, Hate You - a soulful RnB classic and many more Mariah-esque tracks. Last but not least a cover of the Foreigner song I Want To Know What Love Is created a hush over the music bods. For a few minutes at least.

I love 90s Mariah. I hope she has some Breakdown and Babydoll-esque songs.
