My family lives in the Caribbean (Caribbean blacks) and the younger generation listen to rap intently and use the term amongst themselves yes (not heavily but it is used). I don't believe the older generration does though I've never really taken notice

Of course it's okay for white persons to do this.
I've been doing it for years!

It's one thing to come up to a black person and start calling them the n-word and use the word in casual conversation, and completely different to sing along to a song that contains the word. It's basically not even you using the word, it's the artist who incorporated it into their lyrics. No word is going to impede my enjoyment of any song, I can tell you that much.

Jamaican next to me said he doesn't use the word, nor does his family. He was born in Britain and his mum still lives in Jamaica. His daughter doesn't use the word either, although she may from time to time because of music. He and his daughter understand that I may use the word to sing to song but would not condone its use otherwise (as one would expect).
Perhaps he just said that because he knows I'm far from a racist.

That word has a horrible history that will always be here. You can have fun with it all you want with people who don't mind you doing so but that history will always be there and there are plenty of people more than happy to build on it everyday by continuing to use that word to be hateful.

If it's such a horrible word for blacks then why use it? Wouldn't you want to eliminate it instead of making it seem cool and part of the culture? It just doesn't make sense, sweetheart

I don't think it's okay, snoop dogg, Kendrick Lamar, childish gambimo, the weekend, coco montrese all blocked me because I replied to their tweet with the n word

It actually does make perfect sense that someone would want to turn a negative into a positive for themselves and if you don't think the word can be used positively then you're basically admitting that when you and your supposed "kinda ghetto black coworkers" use it on each other, it's only to insult one another.

I can't seem to grasp why people would jump at the opportunity to say it anyway, unless they're one of those people who think having "white" schools and "black" schools still sounds like an amazing idea.
I don't typically listen to many songs that use it, but if I do, I find a suitable replacement if I am going to say it, or just glaze over the word altogether. I don't find it very appealing to say, really...

The n-word is still thought of as profanity so it'd turn people off if they heard it uncensored. The race of the person who sings it though is irrelevant; the word is not exclusive to black people nor is it any offensive if someone not of colour said it.
1. it's more insulting for a black person to use it. the word was used to degrade and defile their ancestors and yet you want to use it as a slang term with other black people and pretend it's some go-happy word? there is NOTHING positive about that word and our ancestors are cringing in their graves at how stupid some of their successors are today
2. to add to #1, any black person under the age of 50 does not 'have the right' to use it since the majority of them have yet to experience intense racism like blacks did in segregation back in the day. you're only using your ancestors suffrage as an excuse to justify for your bullsht
3. white people aren't responsible for what their ancestors did, nor is anyone else. "all white ppl r racist bc their ancestors enslaved us" = prejudice
4. dictating what a person does (choosing who says what for example) is segregation
5. suffrage is not engraved in someone's lineage; it's only clung on to.
6. it's hypocrisy in its finest form. if it's such a bad word, why are black people using it to refer to themselves and other peers? It's suddenly this jolly word when they use it but reverts back to its original meaning when someone outside of their race uses it. It doesn't "have" to make sense, but best believe people are going to call you out on crap that doesn't make sense and not take you seriously for it

You people get way too offended by everything. I mean you all say hoe and **** and **** in songs and I don't see people being offended by that.
If I say the n word in a song I don't mean to be offensive, it's just the way song goes.
Chill out guys.

I'm not going to pay it any mind if you're rapping/singing along to it, but I'm just one person.
Just because I say I'm not going to get offended by a song doesn't mean others won't. It really depends on a case by case basis tbh.

You're white and not only admit that you use the word but have been in here defending your use of it so I don't know why you're snatched bald bc he called blacks who use it hypocrites and tried to say that only certain blacks have the right to use it. If they're hypocrites then what are you? Put your hair back on.

it wouldn't make it any less hypocritical for a black who endured segregation to use it, but it's more understandable because of what they experienced. But understandable for the younger generations? Get the **** out of here. They only justify it because their predecessors used it and the same nonsense was passed on through generations.

Use the word whilst singing, yes. That's what this thread was about before a group of people (the usual that always do) started being defensive, attacking every white person opposing their opinion, bullying a member and calling them a racist.
So yes, that's hypocrisy. And guess what? Some of those attacking had the NERVE to use their race as justification.

The only ones being "attacked" were the ones saying things like "It's black peoples fault that the word is still used" and "The word isn't even offensive!". Why wouldn't that cause a reaction? Why wouldn't they be dragged? Then there's you talkin bout some damn "I guess I'm gonna just delete all Azealia's music then "
