'Cool For The Summer' is the lead single off of Demi Lovato's upcoming fifth studio album. Being released on the first of July, the combination of the song's summer theme and the chart-topping songwriter-producer behind it (Max Martin), it seemed like this was going to be Demi's first big hit after the underperformance of her previous singles. How wrong that assumption was.

There is no word more fitting for this song than 'tragedy'. Demi's insufferable vocal performance alone makes the song completely unlistenable. She screams her way through the chorus leaving your ears ringing while her attempt at sexy breathy vocals in the verses will leave you cringing.

The melody of the chorus is a direct copy-and-paste of the single 'Domino' by British recording-artist Jessie J meaning this song isn't even remotely fresh or new, but instead completely generic and dated. Even the lyrical content is not only try-hard but also offensive as Lovato promotes the idea of homosexuality being something that is just "cool for the summer".

Overall the song sounds like a sell-out and a desperate attempt at a summer hit without an ounce of originality. This painfully bad song doesn't have any replay value and is not even worthy of being an album filler.

Well, your review was somewhat inflammatory and exaggerated, and pretty clearly coming from a biased standpoint.

I'm not trying to be harsh, because I appreciate everyone that takes the time to come in here and write a review, but with songs like 45S and CftS, some of the reviews have been trolling and I haven't wanted to count them.

Here is my new review:

Cool For The Summer is the lead single from Demi's upcoming fifth album. It is a pop song with rock influences and was produced by Max Martin, so should be expected to be high quality. However, in my opinion it isn't because Demi's vocals are missing her signature sound, while the theme of the song is a bit tacky and the chorus is a bit extra. However, I do like the instrumental parts a little and the cover reminds me of the Problem cover so that earns it a star. ✮☆☆☆☆

This has happened before (Anaconda, FourFiveSeconds) and it hasn't really been a huge issue. The stans have balanced out the haters. This doesn't mean I condone trolling; rather, it means that we have to accept that this kind of stuff happens with songs by popular artists.

I'm sure if Katy or Gaga released a new single, the same thing would happen.

Demi Lovato - Cool For The Summer

Cool For The Summer is the first song that is released from her highly anticipated upcoming fifth studio album. This song starts off with slow piano rhythm and slowly transforms into a addictive pop-rock chorus. The chorus is catchy and her vocals on the final chorus, like always, truly shows her vocal ability that outshines some of her peers. The Max Martin produced song reminds us her pop-rock roots and can easily crown the song of the summer. The song overall sounds really fresh and new compared to recent released song.

As a conclusion, the song will still sounds fresh after weeks of listening, it never get bored and the production of the song made the song her best lead single to date.
I will give it a 9/10.

Demi Lovato - Cool For The Summer

Demi's single always rely on her voice and sometimes it ruins the single itself. While her vocals is good, she has a tendecies to oversinging. That's not the case in Cool For The Summer. Open with a simple piano line, Demi manage to sounds seductive for the first time in the verse. The prechorus is great,grungy and successfully elevate the song into next level. Fortunately the chorus doesn't disappoint and maintain the same energy. The only disappointed part is the bridge which is stopping and pausing the energy from the chorus. Overall a great (and surprising) single from both Demi and Max Martin. Hopefully Demi maintain her emotiveness and forget to oversinging in the future
