The Great Forever makes me think of someone who is mentally unstable and going to off themselves.

The vocals IMO don't really match the tone of the production. The production while being A+ is oddly depressing.

Some happy danceable sun-kissed Janet would've been really awesome to listen to again.

I want some hard hitting dance tracks too... Along with happy dance tracks. Lately all of Janets songs sound depressing. Every since 2004 we get depressed Janet!

It's a 20 second snippet like...let's wait until we hear the whole thing before we judge the entire thing. Plus we don't even know if this is the finished version. It could be stripped down or had a part of the melody taken out. Let's just not jump to conclusions.

Janet is human and an artist. Her life has changed since All For You, both personally and professionally. It's not fair to ask her to just be happy and make happy music. It's not as simplistic or generic as that. Maybe a part of her will forever feel a sadness in heart because of the life she's lived. That's just how it's probably gonna be tbh. I appreciate that though cuz at least she isn't being fake. Her music reflects her life experiences.

Me too. Her pop songs just haven't been the same

Even at her saddest she gave us the infectious bubbly together again. I think I will wait and see what happens with these two songs. I'm not instantly drawn like I was with feedback. So far I'm not moved yet this era. The next week and a half will be interesting leading up the tour

Edit: She hasn't been sad/dark since The Velvet Rope. We've had a decade of crap albums, all because she was 'happy'. I'd much rather she make intelligent pop music again.

I think the word you're looking for is carefree (Escapade, Runaway, Doesn't Really Matter) etc.
