My Review:
I tried to get into her & listened to the full album stream. It's definitely not for me, but I can tell it's definitely something for the Electra Heart stans to latch on to.
I don't hear or see anything original in her. She has the sound of Lorde with the lyrics & imagery of Natalia Kills. Every song on this album sounds nearly the same. Moody synths & mid-tempo beats while she tries to sound lyrically edgy by dropping "f**k" in multiple choruses. It does come off as juvenile, but not in a complimentary way that has anything to do with the concept of her album.
She tries so hard to sound tortured, but she's only 20 years old, fresh from X Factor, & neck deep into Tumblr culture, so all I'm really getting is from her is
Sad Emo Girl At The Mall On The Weekend Crying In Front of A Cinnabon For No Reason. I don't think that's what she was going for.
I think this is one of those albums where it's cool to like it from the age of 17-20, but then when you grow up a little bit more, you realize how embarrassing it all was. I wonder if she'll feel the same way.
I would willingly give her creativity points for the concept of her album, but I can't because the lyrics are the bland melodrama one would expect just by looking at her. It's obvious she came up with the song titles beforehand &
tried to write songs around them. What's supposed to be edgy only comes off as boring, unfortunately.
Wishing her luck, though. I think she'll need it.
