Listened whole album, some songs are definitely growing
My favourite would be Mad Hatter, Milk and Cookies and Soap IMO

I don't like Mad Hatter for some reason. I'm trying really hard to though. Not a big fan of Training Wheels either. I like how she said she didn't like to write happy songs. It kinda felt wrong to me. Like I had to find some underlining evil in it. The whole story is so beautiful. I can't even really pick a favorite. I kinda feel like I don't even love the songs by themselves. They might even be weak in some cases, but damn. They're beautiful as a story.

I think I love Soap so much because it's kinda just good as itself. It kinda doesn't fit the album too. I think my other favorites are Milk and Cookies and Pacify Her. I love how DARK Sippy Cup is. Carusol and Dollhouse have always been favorites too. Tag, You're It lowkey made me uncomfortable because rape has always been something that I've been weird about, but the way she worded everything. I love it.

okay idk. It's a very good story. The descent to madness from PP to Mrs. Potato Head is probably my favorite stretch in the music.

The deluxe tracks have grown on me immensely and I love them. I cannot wait to buy a physical copy soon! I'm sad they're not on a physical but I'll just put them on a blank CD anyway.

My Review:

I tried to get into her & listened to the full album stream. It's definitely not for me, but I can tell it's definitely something for the Electra Heart stans to latch on to.

I don't hear or see anything original in her. She has the sound of Lorde with the lyrics & imagery of Natalia Kills. Every song on this album sounds nearly the same. Moody synths & mid-tempo beats while she tries to sound lyrically edgy by dropping "f**k" in multiple choruses. It does come off as juvenile, but not in a complimentary way that has anything to do with the concept of her album.

She tries so hard to sound tortured, but she's only 20 years old, fresh from X Factor, & neck deep into Tumblr culture, so all I'm really getting is from her is Sad Emo Girl At The Mall On The Weekend Crying In Front of A Cinnabon For No Reason. I don't think that's what she was going for.

I think this is one of those albums where it's cool to like it from the age of 17-20, but then when you grow up a little bit more, you realize how embarrassing it all was. I wonder if she'll feel the same way.

I would willingly give her creativity points for the concept of her album, but I can't because the lyrics are the bland melodrama one would expect just by looking at her. It's obvious she came up with the song titles beforehand & tried to write songs around them. What's supposed to be edgy only comes off as boring, unfortunately.

Wishing her luck, though. I think she'll need it.

The clean version is much easier to stomach for me tbh. The toys are metaphors though - they follow the theme of Cry Baby.

It's all part of the era and her vision for the album. If you don't like it, that's a different story but most of us think it's a clever way of expressing her artistry and that's what matters
