With that said, let's get to it...
Picture #1:
Picture #1
1. Golden - Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Quote:
Picture
This picture shows a woman in the process of working out; her facial expression tells you she’s strong and she believes in herself.
Song
This song is a true classic and a symbolization for hard work and dedication as well as being a motivational statement that reminds you, despite a possible myriad of bumps in the road, you have to keep moving forward.
2. dwuw - Kanye West - Stronger
Quote:
In this picture, we can see a girl working out, it's a really simple pic.
So I chose Stronger because it's a great track for working out, since the lyrics "Work it harder, make it better/do it faster, makes us stronger,/more than ever, hour after,/Our work is never over." repeat all over the song, helping us to reach our goal, working harder.
3. T-Swizz - Christina Aguilera - Fighter
Quote:
From afar the picture looks like your average run-of-the-mill feminist-esque anthem poster; however the truth lies in the details. It wasn't until I opened the image to a full-sized resolution that I noticed the woman is far from the glamorous fitness guru you'd expect her to be, the dirt on her pants, the grubby walls, & most importantly the look in her eyes show that there is a story behind this photo; one that stems from a place survival, one that shows she's indeed a fighter.
4. Guero - Britney Spears - Stronger
Quote:
You can tell that this girl is strong, but not by her being able to lift the heavy weight, but by the look she is giving on her face. Stronger, to me, ties in that look on her face to what the song is about: gaining strength from pain.
5. Ivory. - Beyoncé - Run The World (Girls)
Quote:
The one thing that pops into my mind when I look at this picture is a strong female/woman who can do anything she sets her mind to. "Run The World (Girls)" by Beyonce is a song that celebrates strong women so I felt that it could represent my interpretation of the photo nicely.
6. Element - Destiny's Child - Survivor
Quote:
The woman in this picture exudes an unmistakable aura of feminine power, strength, and determination, which you can see fully present in her facial expression -- perhaps a recent breakup or life change has occurred? This aptly-named Destiny's Child song expresses every aspect of this picture, through its lyrics (such as "you thought that I'd be weak without you, but I'm stronger"), powerful vocals, and epic instrumental.
Dylan's Rank:
Picture #1:
1. dwuw - I took this picture as more straight-forward and Stronger is actually a nice work out jam.
2. Element - Yeah, there's determination in her face.
3. T-Swizz - I mean she looks like a model whose sweat smells like flowers but your explanation was one of the best so it works.
4. Guero - This song is almost too cheesy to represent anything but a bag of cheese balls but you got the gist of it.
5. Golden - You went the same route as most of everyone else. I just thought this was the biggest cheese-ball option of the bunch.
6. Ivory. - I get why you sent this in but I think you focused too much on female rather than self-empowerment.
This picture is very simple. It shows a girl working out. I expected empowerment songs which for 5/6 of you, I got. I put Jorge first because I thought he was the most straight-forward of the bunch. Then came Element/T-Swizz for their explanations followed by Guero/Golden since their song choices were a little corny. I had to rank Ivory. last because I felt he only semi-hit the main aspect of the picture.
Ethan's Rank:
Picture #1: Fit Bitch
1. T-Swizz
2. Golden
3. dwuw
4. Element
5. Guero
6. Ivory.
The first three were pretty good, the second three weren't. Y'all some sexist ass motherfuckers. T-Swizz that is a reach and you KNOW it but I love you for it.
Yvess' Rank:
Picture #1
1. T-Swizz
2. dwuw
3. Element
4. Golden
5. Guero
6. Ivory
Everyone did well. I just picked the song that would really represent that picture. I honestly felt that Xtina song fits the theme perfectly.
Mario's Rank:
Picture #1:
1. T-Swizz
2. Golden
3. Element
4. Guero
5. dwuw
6. Ivory.
I liked how Swizz saw the pic in depth and detailed his choice for a song that's perfectly fitting. Golden, Element and Guero did a great job as well. Jorge's was good but it was too basic to only go with the "working out" route. Run the World is ranked last because I didn't see this pic as feminist-based but rather as an empowering feel that can fit every gender.
Picture
This picture shows a woman staring at herself in the mirror; her facial expression illustrate reflection and insecurity.
Song
Who You Are is an extremely personal song that perfectly emphasizes on a oh so very important message: always stay true to yourself, even at times when you feel insecure or feel pressure from others around you.
2. dwuw - Lil Wayne - Mirror (feat. Bruno Mars)
Quote:
In this picture, we can see a girl looking at herself in a mirror, with a serious facial expression.
I chose Mirror because of the chorus, which talks about how the mirror (his reflection) has been Bruno's only friend, since no one understands him, and I think that's what the picture express.
3. T-Swizz - Christina Aguilera - Reflection
Quote:
This may seem like a safe choice, but it's too fitting to ignore. This track explains issues girls & boys alike, deal with on a constant basis; we often see the younger generations going to extreme lengths (spending hours on hair & make-up/which outfit to choose) to try & appease others; the girl in this particular photo is dolled up to the nines & yet she's still unhappy, unable to show her true self out of fear of what others might think.
4. Guero - Mary J. Blige - Mirror (feat. Eve)
Quote:
The woman in this photo is staring at herself in the mirror, unhappy with what she sees. In Mirror, Mary realizes that the source of her unhappiness came from who she saw in the mirror: someone who would stay with a man who treated her horribly for so long.
5. Ivory. - Britney Spears - Girl In The Mirror
Quote:
I think the context of the picture is that a girl who doesn't quite know who she is looking into a mirror and trying to get strength from her reflection. The song "Girl In The Mirror" by Britney Spears is also about a girl who doesn't quite know who she is ("There's a girl in the mirror, I wonder who she is. Sometimes I think I know her, sometimes I really wish I did") tries to find strength ("If I could, I would tell her not to be afraid. The pain that she's feeling, the sense of loneliness will fade") within her reflection to get over someone who broke her heart (this isn't explicitly stated but it's heavily implied).
6. Element - Ellie Goulding - Mirror
Quote:
The girl in this photograph is immersed in a very contemplative and reflective state, shown in her melancholy facial expression, and manifested by the mirror in front of her. In the song "Mirror," Ellie hauntingly croons about her past actions, expressing confusion, contemplation, and inner turmoil, in the manner that I also expect from the pictured girl.
Dylan's Rank:
Picture #2:
1. Golden - Your picture didn't mention any mirror-related lyrics but it still most accurately hits the emotional aspect of this picture. Love the song.
2. T-Swizz - Obvious isn't always bad. This is an example of that.
3. Ivory. - This song was and still is so cute.
4. Element - The better of the "Mirror" options this picture.
5. dwuw - Bruno works really well while Wayne drags this down a bit.
6. Guero - This works very well lyrically but sonically it doesn't have that vulnerability the other songs do.
Insecurity was the main point of the picture in my opinion whether a state of contemplation or realization. Golden was the winner here since he did this without the use of mirror-related lines. T-Swizz/ivory. came next and then the three "Mirror" tracks that all fit well but it just came down to who expressed vulnerability the best with their track.
Ethan's Rank:
Picture #2: Selfie
1. T-Swizz
2. Ivory.
3. Golden
4. Element
5. dwuw
6. Guero
Almost everyone picking literal mirror songs T-Swizz that is a reach and you KNOW it but I love you for it.
Yvess' Rank:
Picture #2
1. T-Swizz
2. Golden
3. Ivory.
4. Element
5. dwuw
6. Guero
Reflection is so perfect! Who You Are and Girl in the Mirror are also my fave.
Mario's Rank:
Picture #2:
1. Golden
2. Guero
3. T-Swizz
4. Ivory.
5. dwuw
6. Element
The theme behind this was certainly the insecurity on the girl's face and everyone of you caught this and paired it with great tracks. No one really did it wrong but some explanations earned points for the ranking.
Picture
This picture shows a couple holding hands and charmingly staring at each other; presumably they’re high school lovers whom have grown old together, sharing essential life events with each other.
Song
This song is an ode to soulmates and lovers and the lyrics & video simply speak for themselves.
2. dwuw - Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Quote:
In this picture, we can see an old couple holding hands.
I chose TOL because of its lyrics ("And, darling, I will be loving you 'til we're 70" and most of the song), the song talks about how Ed will love his lover forever, till they are really old, and they aren't as beautiful/smart/young, etc.
3. T-Swizz - Kenny Rogers - Through The Years
Quote:
It's rather easy to promise loving someone for eternity when you're still infatuated with someone (honey-moon phase) which is why I find it hilarious how easily the younger artists throw around phrases like "And, darling, I will be loving you 'til we're 70" when they've only spent a year or two at most with their significant other. I chose "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers because it accurately represents a relationship that has withstood the test of time, owning up to the flaws and learning to forgive & forget.
4. Guero - Jim Brickman & Anne Cochran - After All These Years
Quote:
This picture shows an elderly couple in love, looking at each other and holding hands. After All These Years is about still being in love with your partner after many, many years and still loving them like you did in the beginning.
5. Ivory. - Lionel Richie - Endless Love
Quote:
I think this picture represents two people that are truly love with each other and will be/have been for a long time. I feel like "Endless Love" by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross fits this theme as the song also describes two people who are in love with each other and will be in love with each other for a long time ("Two hearts that beat as one. Our lives have just begun. And forever, I'll hold you close in my arms. I can't resist your charms").
6. Element - Natalie Cole - This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)
Quote:
This cheerful picture depicts an elderly couple that has experienced many wonderful years of marriage and romance, as shown by their smiles and tender hand-holding. Natalie Cole's classic song is the perfect accompaniment to this photograph, as its upbeat instrumental and blissful lyrics perfectly express the emotion and joy of the couple, while also reminding us how true love will persist and blossom through old age, as it is everlasting and eternal.
Dylan's Rank:
Picture #3:
1. T-Swizz - I definitely wanted a nostalgic perspective rather than an anticipated one,
2. Guero - You chose the right way of representing old love.
3. Element - I can definitely picture this playing at the end of a really bad rom-com.
4. Golden - It focuses on growing old but I wanted it from the other perspective as that's what the picture shows.
5. Ivory. - Yeah, they're planning on forever but i wish it was forever speaking to me if that makes sense.
6. dwuw - You clung to that one line for the life of you when there's so many songs actually about reminiscing on old love.
The picture shows an old couple relaxing by a lake or whatever holding hands. You can assuming they're reflecting on their love somehow. T-Swizz & Guero were really the only ones who gave the right perspective of this picture. The people in the picture should be looking back on their love rather than looking forward as they're old in the picture. Element, Golden, & Ivory. came next as they all still focused on old love but from the wrong route in my opinion. Jorge really missed the gist of it all as TOL isn't solely about old love.
Ethan's Rank:
Picture #3: Crusty Old Fats
1. T-Swizz
2. Guero
3. Ivory.
4. dwuw
5. Element
6. Golden
alskdjfla Swizz Element, what's happening man? These challenges are your's to steal! I don't see cheerfulness in that picture at all, it's very calm and peaceful.
Yvess' Rank:
Picture #3
1. Element
2. dwuw
3. T-Swizz
4. Golden
5. Ivory
6. Guero
So hard to choose tbh! Everyone did well on this picture. I love Nat Cole so much. Ed's TOL is perfect too! Through The Years is also a fitting song.
Mario's Rank:
Picture #3:
1. T-Swizz
2. Guero
3. Element
4. Golden
5. Ivory.
6. dwuw
The picture is about a couple of elder people who's probably been in love for a lifetime, and everyone could see that, so why, then, only Swizz and Guero chose accurate songs to express this? When you're young and in love, you run to certain thoughts like "I'll love you forever" or such but only time can really tell so I preferred the songs made by people who had actually been in love for years and years rather than hopeful teenager or young adults.
1. Golden - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Ten Thousand Hours
Quote:
Picture
This picture shows a model amidst of a busy shoot; her facial expression tells you she’s focused but still slightly dazzled.
Song
This song touches on reigniting your passion, remembering what you’re working for - perseverance, dedication and motivation are key aspects within the song's lyrics.
2. dwuw - Lady Gaga - Fashion
Quote:
In this picture, we can see a model doing a photoshoot.
I chose Fashion because it's a fashion anthem, the entire song talks about fashion, name-dropping fashion designers and brands, and it fits this picture perfectly since photoshoots and models are very related to fashion.
3. T-Swizz - Rihanna - Phresh Out The Runway
Quote:
This bad-ass bitch probably just skipped her fourth meal this week & still killed it looking like she came Phresh Out the Runway in this unfiltered photo.
4. Guero - RuPaul - Supermodel (You Better Work)
Quote:
Obviously this photo is a behind the scenes look at a fashion photoshoot. Supermodel fits perfectly; as not only the beat would be great for a photoshoot, but Ru is also cheering you on by chanting for you to "work!" and to "make love to the camera"
5. Ivory. - Christina Aguilera - Glam
Quote:
Since this picture is of a model at a fashion shoot, I think this photo represents a sort of love for fashion. I think "Glam" by Christina Aguilera represents my interpretation well as the songs lyrics revolve around her love of fashion ("Paint your face like a movie queen. A naughty dream or a fantasy. Anything goes, gotta be the scene. Create a look, out a fashion book") and models ("Walk, turn, pose, stop, give 'em what you got. Work those hips, side to side. Get that angle right" and "Better be ready for your photo op. Step in the light for your perfect close up. Be superficial, it's your one shot. Unleash the diva deep inside).
6. Element - Keri Hilson - Pretty Girl Rock
Quote:
The high fashion world, depicted in this photograph, can definitely hold an air of pretentiousness, vanity, and confidence which borders on cockiness. The model in this photograph has a hint of this "better-than-thou" mindset in her facial expression, which reminds me of this track, where Hilson boasts about her beauty, which captures all eyes when she walks into a room, similar to how a supermodel would.
Dylan's Rank:
Picture #4:
1. dwuw - Duh.
2. Ivory. - You're welcome for this choice you wouldn't have had without the era round!
3. Guero - You're definitely Marco from Degrassi.
4. T-Swizz - Yeah but your explanation was lackluster for this one.
5. Element - This song is contradicting because it sounds like an arrogant anthem but by the end it turns into a self-empowerment one for all girls.
6. Golden - There was a glamour aspect to this picture I just don't think needed to be altered.
This picture really was what you saw: a picture of a model rocking a shoot. The songs about glam (Jorge/Ivory) shined while Guero & Swizz also did a good job of representing the model in the picture. Element I felt worked half and half since PGR has more to it than most people think and then Golden I just thought fell flat in an effort I appreciate but didn't care for.
Ethan's Rank:
Picture #4: Me
1. Guero
2. Ivory.
3. T-Swizz
4. Golden
5. dwuw
6. Element
I appreciate the effort, Golden, but fail to see a connection to the song. The bottom two really missed the mark for me as well.
Yvess' Rank:
Picture #4
1. dwuw
2. Element
3. Ivory
4. Guero
5. T-swizz
6. Golden
Gaga, Keri and Xtina slayed so hard!
Mario's Rank:
Picture #4:
1. Element
2. Ivory.
3. dwuw
4. T-Swizz
5. Guero
6. Golden
I expected fierce fashion anthems and I was not disappointed with the picks and explanations. Bravo! I only ranked Golden last because I didn't think the empowering route in his explanation was the right thing to do for this picture.
Picture
This picture shows a car loaded with luggage, the background displays stunning scenery; whoever is in the car is in all likelihood traveling.
Song
This song stresses on the fact that you must live life in the moment, which perfectly correlates to traveling because traveling to me is synonymous with adventure, experience, journeys and chasing your wildest dreams - all components that in one way or another are associated with living life to its fullest potential.
2. dwuw - Lady Gaga - Gypsy
Quote:
In this picture, we can see a car traveling.
I chose Gypsy because, even though it's kind of a love song, the main topic is traveling, and it even ends name-dropping a lot of countries and cities, stating what the song's theme is.
3. T-Swizz - The Beach Boys - Kokomo
Quote:
This song is pretty self-explanatory as the picture depicts a car traveling to some exotic island with an amazing view, which is essentially what the song depicts as well.
4. Guero - Weezer - Island In The Sun
Quote:
This photo shows someone heading off to a beach day, getaway. Island In The Sun not only gives off the perfect beach day sound, but the lyrics also talk about going off and having fun in the sun.
5. Ivory. - Rascal Flatts - I'm Moving On
Quote:
I'm gonna take a bit of a risk and say that I think this picture represents putting a rough chapter of your life behind you and moving on from it. I feel that "I'm Moving On" By Rascal Flats embodies that theme perfectly as he talks about how he has "dealt with his ghosts" and "faced all of his demons" and how now that he's "finally content with a past he regrets" he can move on.
6. Element - Rascal Flatts - Life Is A Highway
Quote:
This photograph shows what is likely a family on a road trip -- however, when you zoom in on the image, you notice that portions of the image (like the car) are actually drawings, not real images. As such, I decided to choose this Rascal Flatts song, as it uses the highway and driving as a metaphor for the amazing journey of life, a journey where not everything is what it seems at first glance, requiring closer observation and attention to truly understand its inner workings.
Dylan's Rank:
Picture #5:
1. Element - I was anticipating someone snatching this as it's different in a great way.
2. Ivory - This definitely could represent moving on as Cruz by Xtina popped into my head when I was thinking of possible songs to send in.
3. Golden - If any picture was opportunity for deep interpretations, it was this one.
4. Guero - This song reminds me of Aquarmarine but anyway it also mentions running away so it works!
5. dwuw - It is about life on the road I think so it somewhat works though your explanation wasn't helping anyone.
6. T-Swizz - Not bad but it seemed the least creative on a picture that gave opportunity to be so.
This picture was the best opportunity to get a little creative and less straight-forward with your song selection. Element, Ivory, and Golden all went a little deep as a result and it worked well for all of them in my opinion. Guero's song choice was cute while Jorge didn't seem too sure of his track. T-Swizz just let me down given his other song choices this round.
Ethan's Rank:
Picture #5

3. Golden
4. T-Swizz
5. Guero
6. dwuw
I like Element and Ivory and Golden's deep interpretations tbh. Life is a highway gives me nostalgic feels! Cars! My childhood!
Mario's Rank:
Picture #5:
1. Element
2. Golden
3. T-Swizz
4. Guero
5. Ivory.
6. dwuw
I was actually looking at this pic just like a portrait of a fun travel but Element's entry opened a whole new world to my eyes and Golden pretty much centered his entry around a similar idea. The fun chill summer bops were great for the more superficial side of the pic. Ivory., you really took a risk with this and it felt a bit forced. Jorge, as you said, Gypsy is a love song.
Congratulations T-Swizz on your first Individual Immunity of the season! You maintained the lead from start to finish so this a very deserved win for you. You are immune from elimination this Tribal Council and have guaranteed a placement in the Top 4 as a result.
Eliminated:
19th castaway eliminated from Survivor: ATRL Edition (Season 5) and the 8th member of the Jury is...
dwuw
Jorge, your journey on this season of Survivor has come to an end. This is a shock considering you seemed to have a steady middle placement the entire results show until Picture #5. "Gypsy" unfortunately did you in and probably will least a bitter taste in your mouth from now on. It's unfortunate to see anyone leave the island this way. Last season we lost gotintoririfever 1 at this point and now you join him among the cursed double elimination victims. All in all, you're placing 6th in a game of 24 contestants which is a great achievement regardless of whether it's over now. You've scored well consistently and have been in the top tier of average scores since the beginning of the season. I hope you had a good time playing while it lasted and I thank you for not only signing up, but for being such an enthusiastic castaway. You'll be heading over to Ponderosa now where you will spend the rest of the game relaxing as the 8th member of the Jury. The finale is near so I expect you to keep up with the game and of course cast your vote in the upcoming Finale.
Below will be the normal stats I display every round, only obviously tribe ranks are now nonexistent so it will only include the current round rank as well as the overall rank.
Then Tribal Council will commence as usual which all 5 of you will be attending.
Congratulations T-Swizz on your first Individual Immunity of the season.
T-Swizz is immune from elimination this round. However, the other 4 of you are up for elimination this Tribal Council. Send me a vote with the name of your choice for elimination after deliberation. Immunity Idols may be played but remember you must PM me before elimination or they are invalid. This is the last round an idol can be played this season. Good luck at your sixth Merge Tribal Council. One of you will become the ninth member of the Jury.
REMINDER:
You all have 24 hours to send a vote in this Tribal Council. If by tomorrow at 11:30 PM PST your vote is not in, I will assume you are voting against yourself at Tribal Council.
