Also,
#TransLivesMatter and #MuslimLivesMatter are both popular hashtags that co-exist with #BlackLivesMatter
without attempting to eclipse, devalue, invalidate, trivialize, and Whitewash
the movement started by and for Black people
like #AllLivesMatter does.

Good to hear!
I don't use the Twitter, so I am unaware that these hashtags are actually popular.

Can this thread be closed now? It isn't a debate anymore, just frustrated poc and white people who won't budge.

Tell them
As a white person I feel so embarrassed right now that some people still deny white privilege and keep being uneducated about important issues like this one

honestly, i think we'd get a lot further with #AllLivesMatter.... since the issue is police brutality as a whole. If we want police to be held accountable, a more unified front, showing that police are out of control in general, not just when it comes to black people, but also non-black lgbt, muslim (anyone who "looks" muslim), immigrants, homeless...it will probably have more impact than each individual group of victims hanging out in their own section of the street picketing the same thing.
That said #AllLivesMatter is obnoxious when it's used spitefully by white people...and to devalue #blacklivesmatter, for a dog...is ridiculous.

For a completely different subject matter, yes. He was saying I was somewhat retarded. So I was going to clapback, calmly and collectively.

It's not just about the act of police brutality tho? It's about the injustice that comes from it. I mean, a cop kills or brutally mistreats an innocent black person and we have to sit and worry about the fact that there's a 99% chance said cop will get away unscathed no matter how high the pile of evidence is against him/her. The media will choose all the most "thuggish" pictures of the victim to make it seem as if they deserved it. You don't really see that happen w/ white victims. They're just labeled "mentally ill"

#BlackLivesMatter involves more than just police brutality though, even though police brutality is what popularized it. And like I said in an earlier post, #AllLivesMatter is so vague and directionless that it wouldn't get anybody anywhere, regardless of whether or not the issue is police brutality or otherwise. Something like #StopPoliceBrutality would be more effective, but like Doc said, it would need to co-exist with #BlackLivesMatter instead of attempt to replace it, because #BlackLivesMatter is an issue that involves police brutality, but also extends beyond it.

This is the problem with #AllLivesMatter.
Sandra Bland's mural
was vandalised.
Nowhere did it mention #BlackLivesMatter, just her name, yet people felt it necessary to deface it with #AllLivesMatter - a hostile and ignorant counter-movement. #BlackLivesMatter is important to fight against the erasure of black people, alive and dead.
This is the reality of #BlackLivesMatter and why #AllLivesMatter will never be appropriate.

I wasn't even coming for your autism, I actually forgot about all of that until you brought it up. Maybe foolish was the better choice of word.

No shade at our OP MLD, but most of us are aware of his conditions via Blogs, and his inability to understand the complexity of a social issue like this is unsurprising. Ironically, it's black or white to him without the multitude of grey shades in between. I.e. As whites + dogs [ ] suffer police brutality, #BlackLivesMatter is "compromised" as an idea.
