Let me counter some of the delusion in this base.
Both the Circus Tour and Femme Fatale Tour received mostly positive reviews critics. While the Circus Tour was able to gross $131.8 million from 97 dates, however, the Femme Fatale Tour was only able to gross $68.7 million from 79 shows. That's only an 18 show difference, but a $63.1 million difference in gross, even though touring grew from 2008 to 2011. So, any arguments that her performing led to the tour underperforming are just wrong, especially when there was demand for more shows.
Also, Britney's promotional performances for
Circus helped her to get her most successful single and album in years and led her to sell out shows on the most successful tour of her career, while truly bad performances like the
Femme Fatale promotional performances didn't help the album's projections and might have actually caused them to go down.
