Sent! I actually kinda love my entry now. Hopefully the good execution and total safe-ness will balance each other out. I'm just really happy I finally got to use all the artists that I did; I've been dying to! Really excited for the results.
"One more day. One more time. One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied"
I can still remember when I would wake up to get ready for school, and there would be my dad. He would be getting ready for work. After all, we all had to follow a schedule. It was so easy to think, thinking with my naive, 5-year-old mind, that there wouldn't be a time where he just not be there. However, life isn't always that predictable. My first song is "One More Day" by Diamond Rio, because I thought that the time would come when I could apologize for all the grudges I wrongly held against him after my mom and him split apart...I waited too long, and it's too late now.
I may not get to tell my dad that I forgive him for the things he did do, or that I'm sorry for blaming him for things that weren't his fault, but I did get to talk to my mom about it after the fact. My mom had heard me listening to "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera, she asked me what the song was and I told her...but a few weeks later, she listened to the lyrics and decided she wanted to talk to me. We ended up having a bonding moment, and it made me realize that I missed my dad more than I wanted to believe. For that reason, Hurt is the second song in my trinity.
"I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do"
"What hurts the most was being so close..."
On that same night, I learned something about my mom: She missed him more than I originally thought, too. My mom left my dad when I was 10, but when I was 14, they were planning on getting back together and starting over. However, as fate would have it, they waited too long to get back together. Now, none of us will ever know what could have been if they did actually get back together...so that's why my last song is "What Hurts The Most" by Rascal Flatts. I think what hurts me the most is knowing that my mom thinks of what could have been all the time, but it didn't happen because it was too late.

BEGINNING, MIDDLE, END.
YOUTH
Starships is a song all about being young and having fun and doing what you like. That's exactly what childhood is about and your youth. In the beginning of your TIME on earth you spend it having fun and doing your thing. Starship speaks about how you will experiment with drugs and alcohol. Experimenting and trying out new things is everything in your childhood and teenhood. The light-hearted production in this song although with carefree lyrics really shows the expression of a teenager or child in an interesting way.
MIDDLE-AGE
In the middle of our time on Earth it's all about working. Some people think they can still be in their youth and just have fun all of the time and they'll just end up getting somewhere. But the ugly truth is that you need to get a job and work if you want to get somewhere and make a mark in the history of time. Getting a job is needed to survive as a middle-age although in this era of your life you are working on romance and children and family and plenty of bills. This can be a static shock to some after having been in your youth having everything paid for you.
ELDER
Near the end of our time on Earth it's all about goodbyes. We've lived our life, cried our tears, smiled our hearts out, we felt love, we felt hate, but overall we made our mark in the history of time. But now it's the end of our story and time for all of the people we are leaving behind to continue theirs. It's all about goodbyes near the end and time to say farewell. This song Rihanna sings she is upset about the person leaving but she knows it's inevitable and it's the best thing to happen and that she has to say goodbye.

The T1ME Trinity
I really wanted to represent the many different aspects of time within my trinity. The main
running theme of my trinity is "The Sounds of the Decade", following the different musical
trends of this decade's past (2010-2013), present (2013-2016) and what I believe to be the future
of music (2016-2019). I also wanted to select songs which thematically had some correlation
with time, which is why all of the songs I've chosen have titles which also relate to time. In
addition, the artists the songs are by have been selected as key representatives for each
third of the decade stipulated above, and are each one of the defining artists for that time.
P4ST (2010-2013)
I've selected "TiK ToK" by Kesha as the first song in my trinity, and what better way to begin "The Sounds of the Decade" than with this decade's very first #1 (in the US)? "TiK ToK" and Ke$ha was a defining song/artist combination for the beginning of the current decade. It made electropop a radio staple for the next 2-3 years, merging elements of the dance-pop and electro-hop genres that were popularised in 2008-2009. Kesha's signature sing-talk style and processed vocals really pushed the boundaries, but everything worked. This sound continued to dominate for the rest of this time period; Kesha herself spawning electropop hits such as "Die Young" in 2012-13. Unfortunately Kesha hasn't seen much success outside of this period, which makes her a perfect ambassador for the past.
PRE5ENT (2013-2016)
Next up is Zedd's "Hourglass", representing the music of the present. While this song wasn't a single, the symbolism of the EDM takeover is strong with this song. 2013 was a real turning point for pop music, as it was essentially the "Rise of the DJs". More and more DJs began seeing success with their songs as the lead artist; putting the focus on the instrumentals, with the vocals being secondary to the beats. Vocalists were often only credited as featured artists, or sometimes left uncredited altogether. Zedd has produced many hits such as "Clarity" and "Break Free", and has worked with some of the biggest names of today, such as Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga and Ellie Goulding. This song is the perfect link between past and future, as vocalist LIZ is definitely one to watch for the future.
FU7URE (2016-2019)
The final song in my trinity is "Around the Clock" by Tink. I selected this song as the representative for the future of music for a few reasons. Obviously the song focusses on time, but there's a lot more to it than that. The song is an urban track, which is quite different from the electropop and EDM sounds that have dominated the first half of the decade, but more and more urban songs are starting to smash and I think that this is only going to become more noticeable in the coming years. Tink is definitely one to watch and a good representative for other R&B/urban female artists such as Azealia Banks, Tinashe, Janelle Monáe and Jhené Aiko. "Around the Clock" combines elements of rapping and singing, which I feel is going to be a major trend in the coming years.
Kyle.
MORNING/AFTERNOON/NIGHT
LITTLE BOOTS - BETTER IN THE MORNING
"Better In The Morning" is the second single from Little Boots' third album, "Working Girl." The lyrics tell the story of a girl waiting until the morning to deal with the fact that her relationship is failing. The song itself also reminds me of early morning with it's bubbly synths and "do do do"s.
JHENE AIKO - MY AFTERNOON DREAM
"My Afternoon Dream" is one of Jhene Aiko's most soothing songs. It's the demo for a deluxe track ("Blue Dream") on her debut album, "Souled Out," but I personally like it better than the final. With the chill vibe of the song, it's perfect for the afternoon, a time to just relax.
KYLIE MINOGUE - ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS
"On A Night Like This" is a single from Kylie Minogue's seventh album, Light Years. In the song, Minogue sings about wanting to spend moments with a new lover, ignoring everything else except him. Night is all about going out and having fun, and Kylie's signature dance-pop sound is the perfect background music for getting ready for a night out.

Superpower
My Holy Trinity this round features 3 strong black women who are urging us to make the most of our time instead of being in rush, running after time or whining about not having enough of it. This philosophy is very refreshing and gives us a positive attitude, something that I try to achieve everyday. THE NIGHT IS STILL YOUNG by NICKI MINAJ
Nicki's fun and poppy song encourages us to make the best of our time. She sings
"I never worry, life is a journey
I just wanna enjoy the ride
What is the hurry? It's pretty early
It's okay, we'll take our time"
Many of us are always running behind the clock and we often forget to enjoy our lives. Enjoying life to the fullest, being present, not stressing about the little things and taking the time to share our blessings with our friends are what keep us young. TIME IS ON MY SIDE by IRMA THOMAS
Inspired by a breakup, soulful jazz singer Irma Thomas sings about how time is on her side and how time will give her the freedom to do everything she wants and be better so at the end, she'll get what she always desired, her man. This short and sweet track brilliantly shows us how time is an ally and that if we just be, we'll slay at life and ultimately get everything we want. XO by BEYONCÉ
On the surface, XO appears to be just another love song but a closer look reveals that this anthemic track urges us to celebrate life and to make the most of it "before they turn the lights out" translation: before we die.
Beyoncé reminds us that "we don't have forever", that our time on Earth is finite so we should live and love hard, live for now and enjoy the gift that is the present.

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide
This song can be interpreted in many ways but to me the song and lyrics talk about time. You've built your whole life around your children and you don't want to let them go or be far from them, but time goes so fast and both you and them are getting older every year. It's about telling your children to go on their journey and don't live your life being scared of change, your love will always be with them and if they ever reflect on their past, they don't have to let anything you've done slow them down as they don't have time to keep worrying about you.
Darius Rucker - It Won't Be Like This For Long
This tells the story from the father's eyes. When you have a child the first few years can be exhausting, confusing and frustrating. However, sooner than you think they'll be grown up and the best years of your life with them will be gone. You try to hold on, but sadly there's no slowing down time and things won't always be the same.
Taylor Swift - Never Grow Up
One of my favourite songs ever, the lyrics touch my heart so much and I never fail to get a tear when the bridge comes up. This song unlike the previous two, is in the perspective of both parent and child. As a child there's so many thing's you want to do, you don't want to listen to your parents or follow their rules and you'll sometimes try to avoid being seen with them. You don't think about how quickly things change and how fast time moves on before you know it, you're a teenager wishing you could turn back time and redo it all over again, you don't want to leave your parents, you don't want to grow up.

as a social construct
One Direction • ''Night Changes"
Have you ever noticed how time seems to move incredibly fast when you least expect it? Sometimes, we adopt the idea that time is what should fuel our decisions. There is always a sense of urgency and we're trying our best to enjoy each and every moment, but the reality is that time itself will always seem to be going way too fast, and it can be hard for us to "keep up" which can cause us to grow up or go through life too quickly, missing out on important moments.
Grizzly Bear • ''Two Weeks"
Time also has a tendency to dictate when we do things. For some of us, it can never feel like the right time to take the next step or to take a risk. We're always waiting for the 'right time' and we get stuck in routines. The thing is, again, time is just a social construct, and in this circumstance it can be used as an excuse for stagnation in our lives. This song is about the realization that life is only what you make it, and sometimes you need to distance yourself from the clock.
Madonna • ''Gone"
There is also a feeling often that time has "run out". We're keen to set boundaries for people and to dictate when an appropriate time is to go out and do certain activities. Although Madonna has accomplished a lot, this song is an honest look at who she has become (at that point in her career) as well as who she may hope to be, and the things she missed out on. The thing is, time will eventually run out, and instead of dwelling in the past or feeling like you regret not pursuing your goals, you should go beyond what time says and turn your nothing into something.

..... to say how you feel
MARIAH CAREY - THE WIND
And now you'll never know I loved you...
And now you'll never know I cared...
These forlorn lines end "The Wind," a jazzy ballad that finds the
disconsolate chanteuse bemoaning the loss of a friend she loved,
but never shared her feelings with. The song reminds listeners to say
how they feel now before the opportunity passes by.
NICK JONAS - PUSH
You need space, you need time
You take yours and I'll take mine
Come closer, so I can be the one to push
"Push" tells the story of a relationship near its end; both parties continue
to hurt one another rather than simply letting go. When there's nothing that
can save the relationship, it's only a matter of time until the ending comes,
until one person pushes hard enough to cause a final break.
..... to make it work
.... to leave your mark
VANESSA CARLTON - THE MARCHING LINE
It's time to join the marching line
And leave it all behind...
Although we may fear the moment when the captain calls our name to
join the marching line, Vanessa reminds us that this final voyage is an
inevitability, that all journeys must come to an end.

Say My Name - Late 90s/Early 00s in R&B
I chose Say My Name by Destiny's Child to represent the late 90s - 2000s era in R&B. At this time, DarkChild was easily the Top producer in the R&B world. He was producing hit after hit after hit. Say My Name is his second Biggest Hit he's produced (after The Boy is Mine, hihi). The sound of say my name has his signature style & special touch. The sounds just like singles that were released around the same time & were dominating airwaves. Examples are: Angel of Mine, It's Not Right, But It's Okay, Angel of Mine, If You Had My Love, Lose My Breath & What About Us.
Wannabe - Bubble Gum Pop
To represent the Bubblegum pop era in pop music, I've chosen the biggest selling single by a girl group, Wannabe by the Spice Girls. This song is basically the epitome of Bubblegum pop & I believe is one of the reasons we have Nsync, Britney & Xtina. Their early work is very heavily influenced by This single (& other singles by the spice girls) Specifically on Britney.
Complicated - Pop Rock
I chose Complicated to represent the early 2000's wave of Pop Rock because Avril was easily the biggest thing to come from it & This is her debut single. Complicated sounds just like a lot of the pop rock songs representing teenage angst & relationships in the early 00s. I couldn't chosen any single from Avrils debut, but i decided on this one because it just has that soft, yet hard feel of Pop Rock music.

Wesley's TIME Trinity
Past Love
For my Time Trinity, I decided to go again with the theme of love, but with the aspect of time. For past love, Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time" reflects upon the mistakes she's made in the past, and hoping she could fix them now, to get back with her one true love.
"If I could turn back time
If I could find a way
Then baby, maybe, maybe
You'd stay"
Present Love
Perry's "This Moment" showcases how all of us should live in the moment, forget about the past, not worry about the future, and just live and love in the moment.
"All we have is this moment
To put a love into motion
Yesterday is history
So why don't you be here with me?
Be here with me now"
Future Love
"From This Moment On" represents the future of love, knowing that no matter what, as long as she lives, she will always love her lover, and be true and faithful for all the time to come.
"From this moment, as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing, I wouldn't give
From this moment, I will love you
As long as I live from this moment on"
There's nothing more that we want then to go back in time and be a child. Nostalgia is rapid when we're older, and we just wish we had those days. We all wish we could turn back time and relive those moments when we were younger. I choose Pretend for that reason.
Then there's the part of time we never really appreciate. The time of the present where we just need to enjoy the moments we are. I think 400 Lux captures that perfectly, just enjoying the time you're spending with someone or something and living in that moment.
Finally, the promise of tomorrow and the future. The time where we want to be at already. I chose Someday My Prince Will Come because its the perfect song for longing for the future and that future you want to live in, in this case its being with true love, longing for a time when your dreams come true.

Music is Timeless
No matter what you say, music is timeless. Music is influenced by what is happening in the world, at the time it is written, sang, produced, and created, and that is something so great. You can go back 100 years ago and see what people were thinking, not only thinking, but pouring their emotions out and singing. You can see the pain, or the happiness in the person's voice and relate it to the time it was created. Maybe their was a World War, or maybe World Peace. Music is Timeless, it paints more than 1,000 pictures at once, it can show you depth and so much more. You can learn so much from it. Music lasts forever, and will always tell it's story over and over again.
Shockingly, during the Great Depression of the 1930's, songs were upbeat and happy. In the United States in 1929, the stock market crashed and so did everyone's hopes and dreams. Over half the country we very poor, and even the rich would be considered lower class in today's times. The thing that shocks me the most, is that the songs of the Great Depression were very happy. If you check the top 20 most popular songs of the 30's, they were all joyful. This speaks volumes to me. In an era where everyone is sad, hungry, and depressed, people sang their hearts out to make people enjoy their time on earth, even if it was looking bad for a short while. This song "Cheek to Cheek" was popular in 1935, where Fred Astaire sings "I'm in heaven, when we're out together dancing cheek to cheek". Even though people were poor, they had their families by their side and made it through the rough times.

"Lady Marmalade" - Patty Labelle
After all of the fighting to end the Vietnam War, the world finally got what it needed, world peace. America was engaged in wars, basically since the 1910's of WW1, and America finally had it's rest, so did Asia. In the 70's after the Vietnam War ended, people in America were so overjoyed. Peoples husbands, fathers, boyfriends, grandpa's, and children weren't forced to fight in a war that took their lives. They were free of fighting. The filming industry and the music industry suddenly was overrun by catchy fun songs, with videos and performances of people with crazy costumes and smiles on their faces, and TV had shows like "happy days" and more. The original "Lady Marmalade" was one of those songs. It shows with it's amazingly catchy tune and great dance video. "Hey Sister, Go Sister, Soul Sister, Go Sister" and the catchy chorus of " Gitchi Gitchi Ya Ya Da Da" made it become a mega hit in the 70's and is still covered today. It captures the happy times of the 70's.

"We are the world 1985" - Micheal Jackson and others"
In 1985, America and the rest of the world realized their is an issue. Many people in Africa were dying by hunger and other illness's. 1 million dying alone in Ethiopia from 1983-85. Micheal Jackson, Quincy Jones, and other legendary/famous vocalists around the world made the not profitable charity song called "We are the world". It sold 20,000,000 copies worldwide and showed the world that their can be help across the world, and the world can unify together if people need help. The song raised 44 million dollars for Africa, and helped the dying people of the continent so much. It is amazing to think if everyone in the world came together and helped each other, amazing work can happen.
Music is Timeless. All of these songs were very impactful and mean so much to the time they were created, and still have lasting impact today. Music is timeless
Lucky#17
The daily actions completed in someone's life can alter based on... the weather of the current period... which is affected by the climate of the area... which is ultimately effected by time.
Summer… a period of time where the weather is at its hottest. The overall mood / approach to this season in society is to be most carefree, and enjoy time more compared to any other season of the year. “In the Sun” by Blondie creates a very beach-rock vibe, with light, fun vocals, to set a perfect tone to represent summer. Debbie Harry sings: “Surf’s up! / In the sun, I'm waiting for the day / Having fun, in warm far away” and "In the sun, it's for everyone / In the sun, were gonna have some fun”.
Autumn & Spring… periods of time where the weather is moderately warm / cool. The overall mood / approach to this season in society is to hold tight, and just continue about normal business. Autumn and Spring are definitely looked as filler / transitional seasons, and are not known for having a full attitude to be portrayed towards them. “Froot” by Marina and the Diamonds creates an in-between of the two polars of summer and winter both sonically and lyrically. The eight-bit production has very warm elements (the soundscape in the chorus and the guitars throughout the song), and cold elements (the synthesizers and piano chords). Marina Diamandis sings: "I’ve seen seasons come and go / From winter sun to summer snow” and “I’ve been saving all my summers for you”.
Winter… a period of time where the weather is at its coldest. The overall mood / approach to this season in society is to be rigid, and fear the dangers that the unpredictable / nuisance-esque weather can bring. Society makes winter the utmost horrible time of the year. However, “Ice Princess” by Azealia Banks challenges this standard by creating a very edgy, aesthetic-appealing record. Sonically, the record is very ice-cold, but edgy; it’s filled with snow soundscapes, hard-knocking EDM and xylophone patterns. Azealia Banks sings: “I’m so cold I’m dripping icicles … To stand around me need to have your winter gear / Pay me coats and benzies it's that burg ice / That's why I do not feel these bitches frost bite” and "Her motives is frozen, giving chill pills to them polars / Corrosive, the coldest, city is a tundra”.

19 years of history.
Easily the task with the most extensive range of possibilities so far. It is for this reason I wanted to make special [for me], also because the last round, I missed the opportunity just to not be predictable with the theme. This round I'm relating 'time' to my personal experiences where 19 years later, I saw myself 'somehow' being impacted by it -- or perhaps, didn't play any major role in my life.
THE WHITE STRIPES
When we are children, the world and its problems, as well as the time are not a concern for us. An innocence that we sadly & easily lose as the time passes by. That's what this song is about, how happy we were drawing in a book, or simply making a new friend always knowing the next day we were going to do exactly the same.
''We don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything''
MADRUGADA
As mentioned, there comes a day where we have to mature like it or not. Numerous types of responsibilities are appearing every day, you start to think about your future and how you want to develop yourself. This is where many of us find this big problem, try to beat the clock. But w/o knowing that it's impossible, we are easily defeated by it.
''Now you’re running out of time''
DOLLY PARTON
Personally, the fear of 'running out of time' marked my life for better, taught me that the best way to befriend it, is to not try to beat him but just go with it. I am more relaxed & open to new experiences, letting everything flow as it should. Of course there are marks & from time to time, certain doubts as to whether this kind of life is the one for me, but day to day I am more convinced that if it is working, take it.
Let me tell you, it's a beautiful feeling to not only dodge a bullet and learn from it, but to be in a better position and know it's their loss. My first and short-lived relationship experience is the epitomization of this song so I find it fitting that I too can look back at that time and be reevaluate my worth by using that experience as a red flag exemplar.

I admire that it's that direction yet there's still a hunger there for the future fruits of labor. "And I will retire with the crown, yes. No I'm not lucky I'm blessed, yes.
