Britney and it's not even debatable. EVERYONE knows Britney. Kids, teens, young adults, middle-aged, even the elderly. I don't see everyone of those demographics knowing what or who Janet Jackson is. Michael Jackson? Yes. Janet? No.

You're still here? Only one of them is a global legend, and that's Britney. No competition.

She also outsold Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Eminem, 2pac, Mahalia Jackson, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra. But all of those artists are legendary, Britney is not. So what does that tell you?

But let's use Spotify streams and Vevo views. Cuz that's a better measurement. That's why Psy will be the most remembered artist of all time!

I don't know what your point is, but yes, those sources are much more reliable in determining who's more remembered.

This pisses me off. Janet doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same poll as Britney. Janet is so beyond her. Y'all discredit her so much.

But according to 83 people in the poll, Britney is a legend. Why is your opinion more important than theirs?

That's because this is ATRL, where iconic performances and retweets make an artist legendary. Post some major publications that recognize Britney as a legend (and MTV doesn't count).

None of which make an artist legendary.

Janet had more musical impact, but Britney had much bigger impact WW and is more known generally.

What? But... but... Janet is a legend because some unknown blogger wrote an article claiming that RN1814 is the most important female album of the past 25y, right? Cringeworthy

And the UK is just the smallest part of the world. So that's not believable...

No one calls Bowie or Madonna "white music legends"
So embarrassing, and the fact that he thought he was SLAYING with this corny receipt
So he's gonna let the media decides who is a legend and who isn't? The same media that ruined Janet's career after SB? I've really seen it all

It wasn't a blogger, it was The Atlantic, one of the oldest news publications in the US. And they never claimed it was the most important female album of the past 25 years.
And Janet is a legend because her art has contributed to the evolution of the music landscape through dance, visuals, and artistic growth. This is where Britney fails. Britney came out riding a trend (bubblegum pop), a sound that the Spice Girls created (Britney pretty much owes them her career), and continued cooking fish while the pan was hot. It burned around in 2001 when she went to 10 million to 4 million between Oops and ITZ (spare me your radio ban argument). Nothing she's done has helped shaped the way artists approach the industry. Janet has. That's why Janet is legendary and Britney will settle for being a pop culture icon in perpetuity.

They also did one for Prince, Lionel Richie, and Public Enemy. The BBC, one of, if not, the largest news publication in the UK decided to highlight Black music because of the way Black artists have shaped the world amidst White praise for mediocrity (Britney for example). Race is significant here because of racism. Check your privilege sis.
"So that's not believable", as if the article didn't happen.
