I always played Peach in Mario Tennis and Mario Party. I still play her as a secondary in Mario Kart and Smash Bros., too. The other Nintendo females could never.

And Peach, her consistent slayage in the Paper Mario trilogy.

Nobody irl likes either Daisy or Dixie Kong. They're the laziest Nintendo characters and deserve the dust they're paid.

Also, Mario Kart 8 hit 2M copies in the U.S. and Splatoon has now sold 455,000 copies (290,000 copies sold in June).

Dixie is probably iconic for us because it was one of the earliest opportunities we had to play as a fully developed female character (who looks like a female, i.e. Metroid doesn't count; and Princess Peach in SMB2 has no personality) in a Nintendo platforming game. Plus, her ponytail >>>>>>>

Midna, Birdo, Amaterasu, Medusa, Shadow Peach, etc. are all better female characters than Dixie and Daisy.

Birdo's not even genetically female and is still a better a female character than both Dixie and Daisy
