This actually happened to me about a year ago and I had no idea about it. In Canada we have designated stores for just alcohol and I was there with my dad, we got a pack of ceasers and I was carrying it for my dad, I put it on the conveyor belt and they told me that my dad couldnt buy it because I had been carrying it. We literally had to step out of the store and re enter before they would ring us out.
I didn't know about it until a customer came in with his daughter and the Self Checkout attendant told him they couldn't sell the beer since the daughter touched the drinks anyway. The customer made a stink about it
I just found this out a week or two ago but if you are buying alcoholic beverages and you have a minor with you (OBVIOUSLY, it's better to buy without minors present anyway), not only do BOTH of you have to get carded BUT No one under the age of 18 can touch the drinks being purchased. They will NOT let you buy it.
This big chain store I used to work for is claiming to have surveillance cameras everywhere so stealing is pointless.
However, every single one of them is a dummy. They can't really afford them and stealing anything there is so easy actually.
If you order fries with your meal theres about a 90% chance a server is going to snatch one or two off your plate before they leave the kitchen with it.
In retail if you're rude and you ask for a size check, I will tell them "one minute" and go to the back, go on my cell phone, take a bite of my lunch, sit for a bit and rest, come out ten minutes later and tell them "sorry I looked every where but it looks like we're sold out"

I never thought about that but that sounds so true

This is actually the case for most retail stores. The only real cameras are usually focused on the tills. The rest are all there to deter shoplifting.

They don't. I mean, they could, there's nothing stopping them, but I've worked in kitchens for years and I have never seen anyone snatch food off a customer's actual plate. The kitchen will likely have leftovers everyone will periodically chomp down on, or some chefs will make food for everyone as they prepare to be eaten later if its a long shift.
