I was a swimmer in high school
For resistance, we would swim with clothes on to make everything harder.
Frequently we would do pyramids. 25m, 50m, 75m, 100m, and back down. And do it in every stroke.
Kick day was the worse. We would have to a 500m with the kick boards. That was absolute torture.
Also, we would just swim our race over and over again. I swam the IM so I had to do 3 IMs in our practice after a 100m warm up.
