Only one I didn't know was Platten. Again, these artists weren't exactly poor and struggling.

Wow, should we applaud you for having such a wide range of musical exploration? LMAO
If you insist that only helping poor and struggling artists counts as a "help", then I honestly cannot help you.

I'm not a girl, and I know Apple has a lot of money, but they're a company, not a charity. Google didn't pay artists either when they launched Google Music and even threatened them. At least Apple is not doing that.

Omg, the amount of irrelevant verified accounts agreeing with her & thanking her on twitter. It's great that she's speaking up for all of them even tho it might be for her own greed. At least she's getting the message out there, right? My indie queen.

Please take the time to read Taylor Swift's blog post regarding Apple's streaming servers: http://taylorswift.tumblr.com/…/1220...le-love-taylor
And ask yourself if you would work 14-18 hour days for 3 months for free? That's the amount most young upcoming (and established) writers and producers work 7 days a week. Asking people to do that no matter how much or little they make isn't fair. It isn't right. Thank you @taylorswift for speaking up on behalf of the young writers and producers who haven't made it yet. And who like you said, have their first release coming out during this "trial period" hoping it would help make ends meet. I hope more artist speak out on their behalf.

Please, let's not.
Isn't that what Taylor is trying to advocate to Apple, helping poor and struggling artists (they won't, but still)? I mean, if you can't wrap that around your head, then I can't help you either.

Assuming that the trial period is a fixed period of time that is equal for everyone out there. For the majority of people, perhaps it will be this summer. But many people sign up later too, and they get 3 month trial periods. I can sign up in January next year and get 3 free months while everyone is paying (or not, if they bail after the trial). What about the indie artists trying to release their first single then?

Taylor can afford to speak out against a big company and she has the power to defend those who can't defend themselves.
|
so you're saying that streaming helps promote their music? because I agree, and that promotion and access to their music is why streaming helps more than it harms. radio stations play music without paying the artists at all, is Taylor going to protest that too?

What do you mean missing the point? Savan is defending her, saying its unfair for any new artist to have their work be unpaid for. Having people with 3 month trials spread out over a period of time means that their work will be going unpaid for to some extent over a very long period of time.

It helps for exposure, sure, but they aren't making any money for it and are struggling. Streaming services like this are completely different from radio, because streaming services like this are replacing purchasing music for some people....its the same layout as having a music library that you purchased, but you didn't.
New artists can't afford to leave it off streaming because that's the way people find music nowadays, but its unfair that they aren't getting paid for it. That's what Taylor is saying, she has a problem with the fact that users get a 3 month trial period where all of their use is not paying the artists for their work.

He's missing the point because, as I said, not everyone is going to sign up this summer which is actually what you reiterated now but NOT what he said. Again, let me quote him:

This. Assuming one trial period, common to everyone. He is missing the point I stated.

Apple already eliminated a free tier from their plans due to labels' pressure. Now indie artists want Apple to pay for the 3 month trial? Apple can't please everyone. They would rather have big name artists than small ones because most people signing up for AM listen to mainstream anyway.
There is no silver bullet.

there is a silver bullet. Wait a year than add a 3 month trial period for new comers to the service. 60% of AppleMusic users will be early adopters when the new 8.4 comes out. They don't need a free trail. Many of these same people have been using Spotify for awhile now. Apple just needs to release the service. I already know I want to use AppleMusic. Artists don't need to starve on my account. Besides I pay more than $30/mo buying music as it is.

I see her point but I think some artist don't really care that much about the momey and they just wanna get their music out there. Apple is probably the biggest platform out there so it's a nice way to make yourself known.
I don't know, I agree with her in some things though.

I think only the first 3 months will be free. After that you'll have to pay if you wanna sing up. Can someone confirm this?

What do you mean by wait a year? As in, make people sign up and start paying immediately and then offer trials after a year? You do realize that would just make people wait and/or just not use AM entirely? That's definitely not good for Apple or artists, really.

Everyone will get a 3 month free trial upon signing up, whether you subscribe on June 30 or December 30. It doesn't matter.
After that, as you said, you'll have to pay.
It's not one global free trial period from June 30 - Sep 30.

That doesn't make any sense. People would just keep making new accounts every 3 month if that was the case.
