Blackout is an authentically pop album. Apparently it's "dark" because the production isn't dreamy and sparkly and squeaky? FOH. Reconsider the lyrics and sexual tone in each song and the overall theme/tone. Considering ATRL is the same place where people believe "Disturbia" is a scary song I'm not surprised y'all would think Blackout has prominent dark elements (it doesn't).

The production on Blackout is what makes it "dark" for me. It just has a slight edge compared to most of the Timbaland-esque pop records that were out at the time. That and the fact that the whole album sounds like a Saturday night on the town.

But why does comparing it justify whether it's dark or not? It has a darker production than most pop albums certainly but that doesn't necessarily render the album dark.

I feel like what was going on in her life at the time it was released plays into it imo.

Known substance abusers are almost always seen as darker for some reason.

i never said it wasnt a pop album... my point still remains its her darkest effort compared to her peers and most pop albums released last and dis decade in general only e.t. and pour it up comes close

gag destroys brit and other pop gurls in the dark department tho, thats why most of her fans (just like brits) are power bottoms

just because the album wants u to pop ur ***** doesnt mean it cant be dark i mean almost every song is a strippers anthem
