Is this the start of JRPGs, their comeback? Nier 2, Star Ocean 5, KH3, FFVII remake, FFXV, World of Final Fantasy, FFXIV: Heavensward and more on the way. I live, but I don't know if my body is ready for the slayage.

I don't think Square will let FFXV be overshadowed by the FFVII remake, but I don't know which will come first. Marketing, logistics, business strategy and common sense dictate that they shouldl probably be released at least six months apart to avoid any competition. FFVII has been in development for at least a year, but FFXV has already released a demo, so I can't imagine that FFVII would be completed first. Maybe FFXV in spring/summer of 2016, and FFVII Remake in time for 2016 Christmas/Black Friday sales?

Queen Shiva better be in FFXV, though, considering how epic the summons look and how important they seem to be story-wise.

Eternity: Memory of Lightwaves was MAGNIFICENT.

I hate that X-2 gets such a bad rep. I loved it. I know why most other fans didn't like it but the Charlie's Angels-esque feeling, the jpop songs and the excellent combat system make it one of my top 5 FF games.

I literally had no interest in Star Ocean 5 because I got bored senseless of Last Hope International, but seeing the latest trailer with 6 party members onscreen at once made me gag with hype.

The characters look uninteresting but still.

What? I love the music in X-2. It's a departure from the other soundtracks, sure, but a more diverse sound isn't always bad. The j-pop sound fits the theme and tone of X-2 better than Uematsu's (brilliant and wonderful) piano and instrumental compositions would have.

Though, the backlash may have been just as bad for anyone or any soundtrack that followed Uematsu.

I think FFVII may be more of a reimagining than a strict remake. I think the memorable and important plot points will be the same, but a lot of the game's strength comes from its atmosphere. When you go from 1997 graphics and very basic 3D models to 2015 graphics that are hyper-realistic and lifelike, the atmosphere is going to change. When such a major element is modified, the other aspects of the game may not work as well as they did for the original. Therefore, change will probably make the game better, even if it's not completely necessary.

There are also plot holes and aspects of the original game that even the developers dislike in retrospect (from what I've read). Since they basically started from scratch anyway, I think the remake should highlight the best aspects of the game and remove the disliked or broken aspects. The result is likely to be divisive no matter what they do, even if they completely and loyally replicate the original.
