Well, say for example, that the line were just 'my new favourite thing is swimming' - that wouldn't work as 'my new favourite thing is swim', it'd have to be 'to swim'.
But there's an infinitive phrase in Robyn's case. This example isn't a good parallel.
I still swear that people only love TIGOY so much because Max Martin has a credit on it. I remember reading the Kiss album thread and everyone was like "Max his production >>>" It's cute but definitely not the best on Kiss. Turn Me Up >
My era:
-CMM
-This Kiss
-Your Heart Is A Muscle
-Curiosity
-Wrong Feel So Right
But there's an infinitive phrase in Robyn's case. This example isn't a good parallel.
I don't really get your point. There's an infinitive phrase in both which you're saying, 'to waste' and 'to swim', which can be replaced by 'wasting' and 'swimming'.

For some reason, when explaining English grammar I always forget about cases... Even though I'm doing a degree in German...
I'm a Grammar Nazi, German is such a great language for me.
