So many of us are caught up in not knowing the specifics of our roots in Africa. So many African-Americans (think of Malcolm X) are so bent on reclaiming our lost African heritage. I'm not saying that's wrong; in fact it's very RIGHT. But they act like we have no culture or no history anymore and lol no we have some right here in America.
Again, it would be interesting to find out which regions/cultures/nations in Africa my ancestors came from, but I'm not beat for it. I know nothing about the cultures of West Africa. I am not from there. I'm from here. I have my culture here. I am culturally African-AMERICAN. We got our own thang going just like Jamaicans, Haitians, Trinidadians, etc. Ppl just don't realize that.
Are you catching my drift? It's hard for me to put it eloquently.

OMG I know exactly what you mean and it's annoying because it's not just black people who do it. This white British man kept asking me my background and I kept saying American, but he wouldn't take that for an answer, but for some reason he left it alone when the Jamaican boy said he was Jamaican.
And am sorry but that whole "We're African" thing has always seemed so superficial to me because half those people don't even try to look into the history. Alot of them don't even know we descend from West Africans and are so hellbent on claiming Egyptians and Ethiopians and won't even look into the country let alone ethnic group alot of these people and just call everything African.
It's always bothered me how black people get homogenized, but people can recite every other damn race/ethnicity in the world, but we're all just black. I always want to punch someone when they say things like they're mixed with Brazilian, French, Chinese, Choctaw, Saudi Arabian....and black [/end rant]

There is nothing wrong with us or our culture that is causing us to underperform academically lol we're not stupid.
People who think anyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps are the worst kind of ignorant. Tell the starving, sick children in Haiti and Somalia that! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

ff; I'm not mad. I'm just saying like you did, Nicki's next project could flop even harder and following her downward string.
And Gaga's had much bigger hits, albums, tours, and acclaim in the same period of Nicki. If 'Nicki has never been called a fad' then Gaga damn sure isn't, as she's a much bigger artist.

Even though most of Africa is poor and with few developed cities, there are a lot of cool historical places and sites to visit. Not only do these historic sites contain important artifacts for Africa but also for the entire world.

There was this one kid from Africa who I had a few classes with in middle school. He was a Ugandan from Zambia. Everybody used to pick on him and crack jokes on him and call him an 'African booty-scratcher' and whatnot. He would come back at those jokes, but of course it wasn't the same.
Then he got hit by a train and died right at the beginning of 8th grade, and everybody acted like they were his best friends.
Lol/smh (rest in peace)

Mess Like it's really hard for some AA to understand that is where they are from, that is their home. They call themselves African-American but some how it never actually computes what that really means. Scholars are fond of saying that before AAs ever become **** they must reclaim their heritage. Easier said than done, and I'm not sure if there is any real sound reasoning behind this idea. But if you think about it, national identity is something everyone has, America is preventing you from claiming them so you are at a disadvantage. If your identity is rooted in slavery, will you ever actually climb from the bottom of the ladder as a people? Idk

And keyword, still a bigger artist. Britney Spears has had a bigger decline than Ciara, and yet she still remains a Pop Icon with a bigger career while Ciara was an R&B Fad.

Africans look down on AAs the same reason Big Smoke looks down on AAs and it ain't because y'all are knowledgeable...Africans come with this false pre-judgement that AAs are all lazy good for nothings
its much easier to immigrate to America and do well

Well, THAT could be because African-American is used interchangeably with 'Black'. In my experience, people see African-Americans as the default Black group and just say Black instead of using that whole long term. If they're non-American Blacks, then, well, 'Jamaican' is easy to say quickly.
Lol the 'we come from kings and queens' memes on instagram with the Egyptian pharoahs and sphinxes next to two little kids in the hood fsddfsjd jfjjk
