I have black cousins who are doing very well for themselves and they live in the US. They tell me their struggles all the time, but even they (and also myself) don't believe anything is impossible.
Speaking of struggles, I met a black multi-millionaire about two weeks ago at some after school program. The amount of hard work he had to do to get to where he is now inspired me so much.
Why did you drop out?

It's not because of my own personal experiences. I come from a family with money (high socioeconomic class). I'm doing well for myself and will continue to improve because I'm still not where I want and need to be; however, I just find it very hard for people like Tyrone in the hood to overcome institutionalized racism and the system that was built to keep people like him down and actually make it. Of course there are going to be outliers who go against the norm, but overall I do feel like the trend of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer and the powerful ones with voices will continue to be heard all the while the oppressed ones whom voices go unheard will continue.
I do feel like we should focus on closing that gap though, but I also feel like it's going to take more than just a boost of black owned businesses. We need to start making sure we are represented in positions of power such as government offices and the chamber of commerce.
