I think an argument could be made that if Eminem were black that he'd be more respected as a rapper by blacks. I think he race elevated and hindered him.

I feel that Jay-Z and Eminem have become hacks musically over the years. Not saying you have to release material that tops your best, but release something inspiring. Jay-Z hasn't released a great album since Black Album (2003!) and Eminem hasn't released one since Eminem Show (2002!).

Although I don't think Recovery, MMLP2, and Encore are terrible, I will say his addiction really took a toll on his music. I think he has it in him to release another great album though. He even said since becoming clean he virtually had to learn how to rerap all over again.

He does. Didn't BET name him the Greatest Hip Hop Act of the New Millennium? I would say he is way more accepted and overpraised in the Black Community than Teena Marie is. I feel Teena Marie never really got the recognition that she REALLY did deserve as a R&B/Soul artist, even though Blacks love her more than Whites ever did.
