Fate/Stay Night came out as an Eroge/Visual Novel first. Then it was adapted into an anime by Studio Deen, which adapted the Fate route (aka the Saber route, but it also tried to mix all the routes a bit so it came out as a mess), they also did a movie adapting the Unlimited Blade Works route (aka the Rin/Archer route). Fate/Zero came out as a Light Novel after the first FSN anime, it was adapted into an anime in 2011 by ufotable. They're also doing the current anime which i about the UBW route. After that they'll do a movie about the final route, Heaven's Feel (aka the Sakura route). There's a lot of other spin offs and **** too.
