Well sadly it never happened with Kesha but it did with Katy.

It's not necessarily fair to compare the situations because Dr. Luke refuses to release anything of Kesha's as a single unless it's produced by him and a party song.

You don't get to pretend Katy is a better songwriter because you want it to be true.

I'm simply pointing out the fact that Katy has composed and written by herself and received success and acclaim for it.

The reason Katy's other albums are better is because Dr. Luke was more involved and she took on a more carefree persona. Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night, California Girls, and Hummingbird Heartbeat all showcase a Katy who is more fun and more enjoyable to be around. Even the cheesy Firework and sweet The One That Got Away do a good job of dissipating the terrible personality from her debut. A partying, carefree Katy is more likeable than the sleazy, desperate bitch she was on One of the Boys.

Both of those songs are on OOTB, one of the most panned albums of all time. Also well known.

Self-titled is totally their best

It was so much more iconic and cohesive. BNE fell flat in a lot of places.

Songwriting for radio is a niche talent just like songwriting for ballads, mid tempos, etc.
You don't have to like it, but you have to acknowledge it because it does exist.

That's true. Their last three are all pretty damn great. brand new eyes is consistent throughout, and I love Careful, Ignorance, Playing God, Turn It Off, and The Only Exception. Hell, even Feeling Sorry and Looking Up get stuck in my head. I just think that Riot! does a better job of keeping that pepped up energy going throughout the entire album, and it features Misery Business, which is possibly their greatest ever.

I got the chance to see them live, and it was a blast.
