Disney and Marvel have another movie in the billion-dollar club. After breaking records in China this week with a $33.9 million opening, Avengers: Age Of Ultron has gone on to pass the $1 billion mark at the global box office on its 24th day of release. Only two other Marvel movies have enjoyed this success (Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3)
$1.142 billion with an amazing $156M from China since Tuesday. Less than $40M in the US this weekend, I don't think it'll make it to $500M at home. Abroad it's over $770M so with another 150-200M+ from China the rest of the world needs to make up about $70-80M more to bring that total above $1 billion. I think it'll do it. Should wind up nearly around the same total as the first Avengers if so, in the $1.45-1.55 billion bracket.
Disney's superhero blockbuster added $185 million from 91 territories at the international box office over the weekend, propelling its foreign total to $770.5 million and global cume to $1.142 billion. It currently sits as the eighth-highest grossing film of all time.
Other headlines include becoming the second-biggest Western release ever in such markets as South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Age of Ultron has now grossed $1.142 billion and counting.
Quote:
Age of Ultron has knocked Skyfall ($1.109 billion) out of the top ten list, as well as overtaking The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.119 billion) and Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.124 billion). It is closing in fast on Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion), but still trails the year’s highest grossing movie Fast & Furious 7, which currently sits on $1.472 billion as the fourth biggest movie of all time.
