I'm not even sure I'd criticize Ciara as someone who isn't risky enough. I feel like only certain artists can pull that off well. That's not to drag Ciara, but she really found her groove with Ciara for me and finding your groove > taking risk after risk with little chance of it paying off.

To me this feels like the natural progression after
Ciara. If you (in general) know Ciara's album history, she was trying to do pop with
Fantasy Ride but it flopped because of label support, so she went back to her urban roots with
Basic Instinct.
Boy Outta Here and One Night With You were produced by the same people so she knew she had to have a mix of urban and pop. It was clear from the leaked Overdose snippet in 2012 that she wanted to do more pop music.
Jackie combines the best of all of her past albums imo. It's cohesive like Goodies, personal like The Evolution, diverse like Fantasy Ride, and catchy like Ciara
