So one week in 1990 Billboard was doing a column on developing artists, and Mariah was mentioned.


A performance w/ Michael Bolton that's never been seen til this day aside from the time it happen live. Wonder what song it was.

She performed twice though, and Vision of Love was the 2nd song when it still was just released a few weeks prior and not that big of a hit yet.

Might be her best ending to it.

Because it is so... bland. Mariah supposedly intended to go more in the direction of "Everything Fades Away" and "Do You Think Of Me" (which didn't make the cut and ended up being superior bonus and b-side tracks) but Columbia made her produce more commercial and radio-friendly pop songs.

For the most part, the lyrics are really uninspired and nothing but a cliché. If you ask me you can tell that Mariah did not connect with most of the songs. Her vocals on "All I've Ever Wanted", for example, are outstanding, technically perfect, yet they lack something, some realness or soul. The worst song, however, is "Never Forget You" to me. It feels so unbearably cheesy I find it a waste of Mariah's and Babyface's talents. It's symptomatical for everything that went wrong with this album.

"Music Box" is certainly not horrid and it does have some incredibly good moments ("Anytime You Need A Friend", "Dreamlover") but all in all it's just lifeless and bland.

There's more soul! And Please, "never Forget you" is sweet, I travelling with it (thx babyface )
