Comparing album sales from 2005 to 2013? No logic whatsoever.

It definitely underperformed but it didn't really flop. Maybe I'd call it a flop for Gaga's standards since she usually sells lots of albums.

If I had said that Artpop would only sell about 750k in the USA after more than a year, monsters would have said I was being a hater. So yes, Artpop woefully underperformed. Gaga even admitted she got depressed and considered retiring from pop.

It sold well for this "We want everything for free" record sales climate. That being said it really Flopped hard being that it was only her 3rd studio album in her short career.

The fans may not accept it but it's her Glitter. I think it was somehow the universe working against her and contributing to a real bad-timing but everything was against her at that moment, the album itself was a mess, the way it was handled and all the drama of the possible boycott... flop.

It has a Top 4 hit to its name and sold just as much as anyone else in its first week.
It didn't do well in comparison to her other albums, but its nowhere near the train wreck some people so desperately make it out to be. It wasn't that bad. Its not like it was Warrior or Rebel Heart status.

It was in line with generally successful albums of the time. So for Gaga, it's a large underperformance considering her releases before have usually destroyed the competition.

If you look at its raw receipts, no, of course not. The only reason it gets called a flop is because it's all relative. A lot of female pop stars released at that time - Katy, Miley and a newcomer with a smash hit #1 and she was expected to be the biggest female in pop, and they were beating her in most areas. Especially Katy, who had kind of been dismissed as a flop.

it flopped, stop sugarcoating it's abysmal commercial performance. there's no excuse for it's commercial performance either, she literally shoved the concept of the album down the entire public's throat and desperately tried to do damage control prior to and after it's official release.

YEP!
She is a big star with a huge fan base. So I don't know why she had such low numbers.

Success is always relative.
1.95m copies for an indie band would be a HUGE success. Just like if The Imitation Game had grossed $500 million it would have been a HUGE breakout success, but if The Avengers 2 grosses $500 million it will be an enormous career-ruining bomb for all involved.
In ARTPOP's case, the album was hyped for what seemed like years, had enormous, expensive promotion and cost a lot to make and market. She also likely received a huge advance, and they were banking on her tour grosses to cover up costs (since Gaga has a 360 deal). Considering that sales were less than a third of the last album, and the tour grossed less than half, the label 'FLOP' seems like the logical conclusion to me.

Rebel Heart will make back its money with the tour (Madonna has a 360 deal with LiveNation).
Warrior....I'll assume Dr. Luke produced and wrote at a massive discount or even at a loss considering she was signed to his label.
