When I heard her mum presented the award, the "begging for sympathy" thing came across my mind. But now that I actually got to watch it, it didn't really come off that way at all. She probably let her mum present as a token of appreciation for her mother's support all these years/an attempt to cheer her mum up. The way the idea was executed didn't make her come off as "OOOH, hey my mums sick, plzz pittyy me and buy my alboomz!!!" kind of thing imo.
