For this challenge i chose the character Juvia Lockser from the Shonen Manga/ Anime series Fairy Tail.
Ever since she was introduced to the show she has been one of, if not my favorite character of the series. i also thought about making her my username on here before i joined.
Part of the reason is that she is dressed head to toe in blue and uses water based magic which always draws me in but apart from that her character is extremely interesting and funny to me.
(I hope no one minds the spoilers )
She starts out as an enemy and is rather cold/ emotionless and distant at first (Although were are able to see what her future persona will be like) but she later joins the magicians guild of the main characters and opens up more. She does that to be closer to the character Gray with whom she is in love. It started as simple affection but turned fast into an obsession (she follows him around and watches him from the war, imagines all kinds of things with him, etc)
Other than her obsession, Juvia has generally lots of quirky and odd characteristics that make her a very lovable and funny character.
For example she declares everyone her Rival who shows just small affection for Gray and creates nonesensical love networks in her head that somehow all lead to her crush (X). She also loses it when Gray is in danger and becomes rutheless (i think parts are missing but i couldn't find a better video). But her most noticable quirk is that she always speaks in 3rd person about herself.
But i don't like her soley for her funny moments, i think it is also because i kind or relate to her. The reason why she is so cold and distant is because she always felt odd and out of place which resulted in her getting bullied. While this was never so extreme for me i definitely had those moments in my life. I also become obsessed with things easily so i understand her in that regard (to an extent) too.
Sorry for the multiple videos. i couldn't decide on just one.

Mellie Grant: The Unsung Antihero of Scandal
Mellie Grant, the fictional First Lady of the blockbuster hit show "Scandal," has steadily proven to be one of the most interesting female characters on network television. Mellie is often notorious within the show for being "the scorned woman" or "the bitch wife." However, many do not realize she used to be an extremely passionate, pleasant, and amiable woman. Over the course of her adulthood, Mellie was sexually assaulted by her father in law, on the brink of suicide, & witnessed her son's assassination first hand, all while married to an unfaithful man. In the world of Scandal, vulnerability is weakness; Mellie’s closed-off exterior has worked as a powerful defense. She made a very calculated choice to dial her vulnerability to zero, and draw out the political animal within her. Mellie is ruthless when she feels threatened, and whip-smart. Even when she’s making an enormous blunder, she’s making it grandly and she’s making it with precision. She's the quintessential anti-hero most write-off for their aloof aura, yet become the driving force behind the protagonist's success but forgotten when celebration commences.
My close-knit homophobic community often leaves my parents paranoid as they are repeatedly bombarded with comments regarding my feminine mannerisms. My family is in the process of trying to repair years & years of emotional damage & I decided it would be best to let my desire (to come out) take a backseat for now. Mellie's realization that her emotions must come second to the greater good of the country is one of the most underrated sacrifices within the entire series & I identify a lot with it. Although my sacrifice isn't nearly as laudable, I understand why she must shut down a part of herself to uphold this guise of perfection when trapped in a glass house.

Discredit any witnesses. Introduce new suspects. Bury the evidence.
These are the statements that Professor Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis, says is what you need to get away with murder. In the popular ABC series, How To Get Away With Murder, Davis plays a sassy, witty, smart College professor that teaches a class that has an entire premise of How To Get Away With murder.
I personally see a lot of myself within Professor Annalise Keating, that is why she is one of my favorite TV Characters. She is very quick on her feet, Anything that comes up, she knows exactly what she needs to do to solve it. Because of this, nothing comes to a surprise as her, and she can get out of almost any bind. In addition to this, She's also resourceful, and VERY independent. She's able to take any situation, and spin it how she needs it to. That is why she is my favorite TV personality. I always love someone I feel a connection with. By watching the first episode, you would probably think that this was a simple show about this simple class, but after watching the rest of the season, seeing all the drama about her life, sex, and the mess in-between, you'll always come back for more.
In the clip I provided, It shows a great example of how she gathered this suspect by being resourceful and collecting all of her intel, and spitting it on him right then and there.
No one was expecting, nor ready for it.

COOKIE LYON
from "Empire"
Portrayed by: Taraji P. Henson
Cookie Lyon is one of the main characters in "Empire", mother of three complicated boys and former wife of Lucious Lyon, one of the biggest star in music and now CEO of the record label which gives the title to the show. Right after having found the money, through illegal traffic, to build Empire from the ground together with Lucious, those same traffics got her in trouble with the law and, avoiding to give the police any help to arrest Lucious, who was involved as well, she renounced a reduction of her own sentence, 17 years of prison, in order not to crush the dreams of the man she loved the most. We get to know her exactly 17 years later, on her release date, and from the first scene I understood who was the HBIC. A fierce black woman from head to toe, extremely honest and blunt and with a wild personality and sense of fashion. It was love at first sight!
She didn't lose any time to get back in the game, going straight to HER record label and demanding HER place in there. But things were different from what she expected. Lucious, after never having visited her in jail, has left her for a younger and ambitious woman, Anika, while, if the two oldest sons, welcomed their mother back warmly, the same couldn't be said about Hakeem. Both these hard things she had to face got me in touch with another side of Cookie. She's also a vulnerable woman, with a huge desire of family and love. This doesn't mean she didn't fight. Yes, also vulnerable, but definitely not weak!
She did everything she could to gain back the trust and love of her family and she, thanks to her own tenacious forces, got her deserved place in the label. Only going forward in the episodes, she realizes that, if everything she does is for the ones she love, the same can't be said about Lucious. The way she went through all of these problems demanding respect, with a great intelligence and a huge sense of humour mixed with a load of the craziest insults made Cookie Lyon my favorite current TV character. As you judges have already seen with my chosen character in last season, Fiona Goode from "American Horror Story: Coven", these are the characters that make me fall in love with a show.
MY FAVORITE SCENES
The first scene is short but I HAD to include it. She wants her son's love back but that doesn't mean he'll let him walk all over her with utter disrespect. The second scene turned out to be one of the funniest ones of the show, to me. It involves the first "fight" she'll have during all of the season with Lucious' fiancée, Anika, and I couldn't help but laughing for my life at each and everyone of these scenes. Gotta love Cookie!

Episode 7: TV Personality
Tell us who your favorite television character is.
My favorite television character would have to be Lisa Landry (played by Jackée Harry) from the comedy series Sister, Sister (1994-1999). Jackée is best known for her breakout, Emmy-winning role on the 80s comedy series 227 as Sandra - known as a man magnet and a sassed-mouth queen. On Sister, Sister, however, her role is more mature, but she still holds true to her comedic self as she portrays the adopted mother of Tia Landry (Tia Mowry-Hardrict). Lisa was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan (where the show is set), so she posseses a tinge of "hood" but a lot of sass and class. On the series premiere, Tia becomes reunited with her seperated-at-birth, identical twin sister Tamera Campbell (Tamera Mowry-Housley), and they (Tia & Lisa) eventually move in with Tamera and her adopted father Ray Campbell (Tim Reid). As a result of the move-in, Tia and Tamera are practically playing catch-up on the 14 years they missed together. Lisa, on the other hand, becomes a stay-at-home mother who begins her own business - Fashions By Lisa - and becomes quasi-romatically involved with Ray Campbell.
Why this is your favorite character?
Lisa Landry is nothing but a goofball at heart. I adore the way she is sternly able to keep Tia so well-grounded. Lisa is wild, unfiltered (in an ABC Family sense), and such a troll. In a nutshell, she is the comedic relief to the show. I would be going on a limb by saying she's the JJ Evans (from the 70s comedy series Good Times) of Sister, Sister, but she sort of fits in that mold of bringing laughter during serious situations, and I think every television show needs that. One of my favorite scenes of the series is from the episode Father's Day (starts at 14:09, ends at 16:34). In this scene, Lisa believes Ray is becoming a crook, but she doesn't know that Tamera (and Tia) have just found their birth father. They're both speaking at each other as if they're talking about the same "problem," but in actuality, they're not. This scene is just a typical day in the lives of the Landrys and Campbells.

Cookie Lyon is my favorite non-reality show related character in recent memory. She is a convicted felon that used 400,000 dollars in drug money to start "Empire". I adore Cookie because of her power to succeed. She takes what is hers and doesn't let anyone get in her way, at least not without a fight. Cookie is very good at what she does and she knows it. I love that Ghettofabulousness trait she has. That "Yeah, i'm from the hood but i'll still **** you up" type of thing. She is extremely outspoken and Never holds her tongue. She is extremely Loyal and supportive, even if she comes off as a bitch while doing so. Ms. Lyon might be a pain in the ass at times, but it comes from a good place. For instance, her believing in gay rights and being there for her gay son. She is a passionate, headstrong individual and i guarantee you won't win an argument with her. Cookie demands respect at all times, whether it be from her children, or anyone from the streets. Basically Cookie is that strong, independent woman that doesn't need anyone or anything. Not to mention that her style is kinda to die for. She can stand alone and I find that refreshing and i LOVE it.

Gabrielle "Gaby" Solis
AKA the Queen of Desperate housewives
The Latina queen, Gaby. In my opinion, she made the show. She was a big part of the entertaining factor of this show. She was funny, messy and lovable at the same time. Yes of course, she had plenty of scandals surrounding her (much like the rest of the women) however, I think she always made me crack up. When a show is as scandalous and drama-filled like this, it's great to have some sort of comedy relief, someone to just say something to make everyone laugh. That's why I think she's my favorite character. She would just say something and you'd like like "oh my god" and start to cackle. She had this type of humor to her that was relate able in a way, she's lazy and a diva and she's really not afraid to let anyone know. Gay Icon or..?
But in a way, she was able to connect with plenty of women, especially anyone who has suffered from any form of abuse. She had a lot of marital issues, affairs, a lot of family issues, and reveals some major personal issues that I won't ruin for those who haven't seen the show. But at the end of the day she's a strong woman, and an overall amazing character in which I admire
The series itself is pretty much about upper class woman showcasing their dramatic lives, They're all bffs, however each woman has their own drama and scandal to deal with. Of course on Wisteria Lane, there's murder, there's divorce, there's the occasional affair. All brings together a great show that lasted for years. Me and my mom used to always watch this show every Sunday night. We'd sit down on the couch, and just watch as the drama unfolds. So many great memories.
(Warning: If you haven't seen this show before, this contains spoilers)
Not necessarily my favorite scene of hers, however, it's definitely the most emotional/heart wrenching. It gave the viewers a different side Gaby, it showed us that everyone has a past, and that not everyone's perfect. Gaby in a lot of ways is seen as perfect in the show. She's rich, beautiful, has a loving family. However, what this scene proved (and more scenes leading up to this) is that nobody's perfect, and even the most beautiful people have scars.
And just a few pictures with captions that I think are cute and kinda funny, which helps depict the funny and entertaining side of Gaby:
I know I have made this abundantly evident while posting in the Les ATRLers thread, but I don't watch TV anymore. In fact, it's been about 9 years since I regularly watched television, so if my choice seems a bit immature, it's because I'm basing this off the mindset of ~11 year old me. I am aware how this goes against one of the guidelines of the challenge, but I literally can't uphold that part of the challenge.
With that said, my character is Spongebob Squarepants. I'd already said that this character was chosen with my ~11 year old mindset, and some of the things I did, as a young child, was play outside with friends, create stories with characters, locations, etc., and even invent new games to play. What all of these had in common is that they required imagination, which is something a young child usually has an abundance of.
"What the **** does this have to do with Spongebob Squarepants, Hug?!" You're asking, 2 paragraphs in and not a single glimpse of explanation as to why I chose Spongebob Squarepants. It's because I realized, when desperately looking for a way to approach this challenge, I needed some "Imaaaaginaaaatiooooon". *makes a rainbow with hands*
Spongebob, as a character, is campy, friendly, and imaginative. He may be upset easily, but he's also quick to forgive and let live. He likes to sing, he likes to play around, and he always (tries to) make people laugh. If you couldn't guess it by now, this character may as well be me. I see all these traits in myself, and when you're able to identify with a talking sponge who flips burgers for a living, then you know that character is great.
Regardless of how you feel for modern episodes, Spongebob is such an iconic (literal iconic, not ATRL iconic), generation-crossing television show that has stood the test of time. Spongebob, among other cartoons, captured the imagination in my younger self, and helped me keep it as a growing adult, and I know, right now, there are other children who are growing up with Spongebob, with stars in their eyes and a world of imagination of their own to explore.
By the way, this is a gif of one of my favorite scenes. It really stands out in my mind when I think of Spongebob. A clip from this episode can be seen here.
A character who could invoke these things into multiple generations AND do it so powerfully and effectively? That's brilliant character design, and anyone who hasn't seen Spongebob before is truly missing out.
Mellie's character is so underrated
If people actually took the time to study her background, she'd be the most popular one in Scandal, guaranteed.
Yeah, she's underrated, I'll give you that. I was more surprised than disappointed. I've watched the series from the start and know the background, but there's far more compelling characters out there. I could never consider her my favorite. Not even the strongest First Lady character, as far as I'm concerned.
