This is sad because AO is the better song out of the three singles so far.

I agree.
On the other hand I think it's wayyyyy too early to call it a flop or to say it was a bad single choice. Its release on iTunes wasn't as frontloaded & eventful as FFS & BBHMM.
Also for the 1st time we have Spotify, Vevo, iTunes all at once & airplays will follow next week. I do think sales & views will increase once the video becomes more popular towards the GP and once the song impacts mainstream radios. A televised performance would also make the song blow up but that's up to Rih / her management...

Yeah, there's still time for AO to become a hit and it's too early to tell. When I said that something else could've been released, I meant a song that nobody had heard like BBHMM as AO was on Tidal for so long that the Navy/some GP already had got it illegally/seen the video.
Alternatively, the song/video could have been exclusive on Tidal for only like a day or two and then released like it was released yesterday.

Her Tidal exclusivity should've been something else, not her new single + the video. I mean it could've just been the BTS of AO video, like Madonna did with Ghosttown..............

When AO flops I'm gonna need her to pull a LOUD 2.0 so she can redeem herself with the GP

I was thinking the exact same thing, haha! From now on, if she keeps doing Tidal exclusives, it shouldn't be with new singles or videos...

AO getting praised

AO is doomed. With the video already out there's not gonna be any boost after it falls into the 100s on iTunes. And BBHMM is flopping on urban radio. Great era. Can't wait for that 100k first week opening.

And what? What if she opens up with 100k? Is that y'all only care about?
I'm so tired of saying this daily. It's like she didn't slay the industry for 10 years now, yes she can have a flop.
Who ****ing cares? The music is flawless

No, I care about the music first, and the music has been mediocre.

Just to make this clear.
If a song doesn't have hype around it, it's going to take a while to take off. It happened with Uptown Funk, Blurred Lines, etc. Even songs like Locked Out of Heaven & Diamonds took some time to rise on the charts.
A song going directly #1 is not so significant. It mostly happens when there's a lot of hype around a song and when its release generates buzz, but it doesn't mean that it will become a hit in the long run.
AO is already the 3rd song Rihanna is putting out, there was no hype for it. Plus it didn't have a radio deal, an iTunes banner, etc. It has yet to impact mainstream radios.
Y'all are being dramatic because both FFS & BBHMM quickly reached #1 on iTunes but their releases were frontloaded & there was a lot of hype around both of them. But most hit songs take a while to take off, except Taylor Swift or Katy Perry's songs cause they hype their **** up a lot.

I'm not truly concerned about how her songs are doing.
FFS bodied Russian Roulette with only the Grammy Performance.
BBHMM is performing like PIU but it's way more global than Hard ever was.
What will happen with AO remains to be seen but it's video is receiving more praise than Rude Boy could have ever dreamed of.
All of this with less promotion than during the Rated R era. I mean we may be out of the loop but the era isn't over just because she doesn't have a number one song.
I actually like that FFS, and AO are growers and aren't as instant as BBHMM.
