I think the breakdown was inevitable, from any point of view. The fault lay mostly on the media's shoulders, imo, which in turn affected Britney.
In any event, it's hard to really gauge how her career would have turned out without having it hit rock bottom. Tbh, I think - at least for the gp - it added to Britney's overall appeal. After all, everyone loves a good comeback story.
I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it: Britney's lack of effort, post-Circus, must've been directly related to the implementation of a PERMANENT c-ship. I'm fairly certain it was only temporary up thru 2010. At this point tho, I think she's accepted it, which would explain her apparent shift in motivation.
With Rih hopping on the dubstep bandwagon again, it's like HIAM finally caught a second wind 
Anyways, none of us expected Britney to write on it so that's fine.
