What's behind this song's radio success? It's a cute song, but it seems so strange for pop radio to latch onto an R&B song of a relatively unknown female singer. Does she have big connections or buzz?
Either way, happy for her
That's why i was always surprised that this song has become as big as it has, its not a pop song and she was unheard of before this, and its not like Jeremih is some huge name for Pop radio
Again, the beat throughout the whole song comes from the intro of 80s pop song that's used in dance music:
This song is about "urban" as a Flo Rida or Pitbull song. It's essentially a pop song with urban influences.
lol. This is DEFINITELY an R&B/hip hop song. If this isn't, then neither is Post To Be. Yes, it's catchy, so what? It doesn't change what genre it is.
Have you heard this song before? it samples Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait too, is this not urban? There are hundreds of hip hop songs which sample 80's pop/dance songs. I can link you to more if you want.

The beat, the finger snapping, her vocal delivery it has urban written ALL over it! I don't get why 2 on and Lay It On Me are classified as urban songs and this is isn't.

Who ever said how catchy a song is as an indicator of whether it's pop or not?
I'm aware that plenty of hip hop songs samples 80 pop/dance songs, but sampling a pop song doesn't necessarily make it pop. I think a better indicator is determining who else can perform the song and who the audience is. If Ariana, Flo Rida, Britney or Pitbull performed "Somebody," would you still call it "R&B/hip hop"? It would be called pop with some urban influence. There's a reason why this song took off on pop radio first and Rhythmic later while urban radio isn't receptive to it. I don't know what it's like in the UK, but urban radio does not play Flo Rida songs and this is definitely a song that would have been released by Flo Rida.

There are dozens of threads comparing Natalie La Rose to Tinashe on here and the response is always the same; people point out that "Somebody" is a more a pop song than "2 On" and that it's inevitable that it would see more mainstream success than a song that is less pop.
This is a bop. It's weird that atrl don't seem to care for her.
I think (no shade) the world doesn't care that much about her. She only has like 7k followers on twitter
That's the lowest I've seen for such a successful artist. Also her sales are kind of weak so it shows people aren't really here for her. She needs a live performance and more high profile interviews/magazine cover shoots. People probably know the song but have no clue who sings it.
Umm I don't think that y'all realise that she needs to start from scratch... She ain't no Tinashe, who had a following because of her EP's.. Natalie is COMPLETELY new, nobody has ever heard of her and this single is her debut single and her first attempt to become an established singer. Tinashe, Becky G and Iggy all had songs out before they got a real hit. Natalie did not. So she is creating a fanbase, I think the fact that we don't expect much from her will cause a BIG suprise. Tinashe, Iggy, Becky G all had ATRL cheering for them but underperformed in the end. So don't count her out.
