Neither Sony or Universal are going to buy Spotify. It continually makes losses. That article WAS an April Fool. A pretty poor one. Essentially the story was that all free music everywhere would be gone on April 1 onwards. In the comments on that article people were complaining that it was an April's Fool.
Digital Music News is a great site for music industry news, but this particular article was a spoof one. This was confirmed by MusicAlly, which is another music industry site. If the Spotify story was true, then they would have also been reporting on it. Instead all they said at the time was
