This just doesn't feel like 'the future' of the music industry. It feels like them scrambling to try and keep up by simply taxing it.
IMO, they should be addressing how record labels work and profits are distributed. That is so old fashioned and truly an issue they can control. Unlike piracy and, to a degree, streaming. The digital age shouldn't be commanded by suits following a 20th century model - artists nowadays have direct access to their consumers and can advertise and distribute without cost, which should allow for new and indie acts to have a chance without being screwed over by labels. They need a modern platform. Whether that's iTunes, YouTube and Spotify becoming effective 'labels' like LiveNation, who knows.
