Radio too, all proving people are still listening to Katy. Can't say the same about Gaga.

Katy's hits are seeing LONGEVITY on Vevo and especially radio where she has countless gold recurrents on pop stations and Firework, Roar, Hot N Cold, Teenage Dream and even TOTGA are still slaying on adult stations. If Gaga can't even keep people listening to her music 5 years after it came out, what makes you think people will still be listening in 30 years?
|
Well some of these people believe that radio is manipulated and will play whatever the label wants to hear and that VEVO/YouTube views are bought by labels as well.
And since TF/M has outsold Katy's discography, "why would they need to purchase any of Gaga's singles in the long run"?

I honestly don't know. If only we can actually tell the future. Let me say Katy just because she has more smash hits. (although I do believe that nothing is 'special' about most of them)

Now you're just forgetting your own arguments.
"Katy is selling more right now so she's more timeless."
"Gaga has sold more? THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING."
Keep track of what you're saying.

You tell me, based on these receipts, which one is the most likely to get ACTUAL timeless hit/s that the GP likes to listen to all the time? who is on the right track?
Let me make it easier for you, it's Katy Perry.
|
Let me make it easier for you: your own logic works against you.
Katy's receipts are impressive, no doubt, but she still hasn't sold more records than Gaga, which according to you means she won't be as remembered/timeless. I mean, unless sales no longer matter.

Mhm, that's why I just said it sounds like it could become a classic. The song is actually still played all the time during sporting events and on TV.

Where's the Beatles songs in the top 1000? And on VEVO?
I don't think anyone would argue that they aren't timeless, so I don't think all the little stats (it was cute while it lasted though!) count.

I mean, if a song is barely remembered today, I doubt it's going to fare much better in 20+ years.

People don't listen to Gaga now, why would they listen to her in 20 years?
Hot N Cold alone has better catalog/recurrent sales/streams/airplay than all Gaga's singles combined, which is kinda sad considering it's not even one of her Top5 biggest hits

When people don't care that much two or three years later why should they 20 years from now on?

And Katy above Gaga in iTunes has been a thing for years now probably since BTW the album wore off two months into its release. 4 years of Katy's singles above Gaga's that's indicative of her being more timeless
|
Born This Way sold 300,000+ copies in January 2012. Could you stop making things up? The album literally outsold Katy's best-seller which had a re-release. Let's not.
Katy is on an upswing in popularity with her tour/era and the Super bowl performance. Her songs are currently more popular. This doesn't indicate timelessness at all, but it's not like logic is part of the Kat lexicon...

I think highly acclaimed music stands the test of time (Beatles, Madonna, Cher, Sound of Music, MJ, Prince, etc) GRAMMYs can help us figure out who is highly acclaimed.

I was thinking maybe because Gaga's songs aren't as basic as Katy's? Maybe, just maybe.

Katy is winning on iTunes, VEVO, Radio, etc because these people think her music is STILL worth being played despite them being released a few years ago.
Gaga's songs are very weak on iTunes, VEVO, Radio, etc...
If people don't buy, don't listen, don'y stream, etc Gaga's music NOW after 6 years what makes you think her music will still be played after 10 years more?
Gaga sold more... that's in the PAST but she's not selling NOW which means TIME had an impact on her since her music is so 2009 and "dancey"

You guys still don't get how this argument is detrimental to your own fave. Someone "no one cares about" has sold more records than someone supposedly everyone loves. Do you guys really live in a world where no one cares about Gaga despite her being one of the highest selling musicians of all time and just received more press and praise in one month than her contemporaries have the entire year?
Katy's music supposedly being played and bought today yet not a single Katy song has sold more than 'Poker Face' on a worldwide level. 'Firework' charts every year and still hasn't outsold Gaga's biggest hits...

You were thinking and you were wrong. Being dated doesn't make them any less basic. It's just the production that can't stand the test of time and is forgotten after barely 5 years.

Most of Gaga's music has aged terribly, but Poker Face will be remembered. As for Katy, Teenage Dream (the song) is timeless, but it's hard to say what her signature song is. Most of her music has aged fine.
