Do you really think children are the only demographic seeing this though? A lot of their parents would be taking them to see it, either by dropping them off or they're taking them to see it because they're too young to go to the movies unattended. The celebrity news cycle is huge at the moment. Bigger than it's ever been. So when Rihanna gets announced as the first black face of Dior and then goes to the premiere, it's on the DailyMail, E! news, Entertainment Tonight, TMZ, etc. where stay-at-home mums hold a really high portion of viewers. Then when their kids shows are on, they see the full length trailer for it and head "in theatres March 27." And then their kids spend the rest of the day singing "LET ITTTT GOOO, LET ITTTT GOOOO" and turns around and screams "SHUT THE **** UP. IF I HAVE TO HEAR THAT ****ING SONG ONE MORE GOD DAMN TIME." And then she takes her kids to see and and she says "for the love of God, sing something else."
And that's how my sister bought 6 tickets, shout out to Lara.
My point is, you're right. Rihanna wouldn't have much pulling power over the children themselves. The kids wouldn't see the trailer and be like "suck mahhh cockiness lick my pussasian!" But she would create awareness for the film for the people who are taking those kids to the movie, or seeing it with them - their parents. It's the same reason they cast Jim Parsons and Steve Martin. Dads (and mums) would think "oh that's Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, he's funny, let's take the kids to see that."
It's why they always cast big names in these sorts of movies. It's like Marketing 101, if you want to sell something to a kid, you have to sell it to the parent who's paying for it as well.
