I think the orphan story would make her more synchronised/same-y with Batman so I'd prefer the abusive husband version also. Obviously Batman would tie in at some point later on but the more established Catwoman is without him the better in terms of credibility.
I'd love to see someone like Eva Green portray her, I think she'd do really well. Bérénice Marlohe too based on her part in Skyfall.
