What are you even talking about? I'm positive you've never heard a Kendrick album, otherwise you wouldn't say something as foolish and uniformed.

The album definitely isn't generic. It's not bad, either. But it's definitely been made, packaged, & promoted to capitalize off of the current racial tensions in America. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. There are quite a few positive songs, but this isn't some wildly progressive, game-changing rap album. Andre 3000 could still do it better, & Kendrick still falls into the 'typical rap album' lyrical traps.

Honestly, all you had to do was look at the cover & read the track list to know it was going to be critically acclaimed by reviewers. But it's still a decent album. '97' good? No way. I'd score it in 80-85 range, max.

You can call the album or Kendrick overrated (you probably haven't heard it to make such a claim, anyway), but don't call it or Kendrick "generic." For one, because it's not true. For two, you're rocking Taylor's garbage in your usernames, avatars and signatures. 1989 is a generic pop album that only managed to get more acclaim than a Katy Perry album because Taylor was a "country" act and critics love transitions, even if the music doesn't warrant it. Just like Kendrick doesn't deserve his acclaim for releasing a "generic" album, neither does Taylor deserve her 4.4 million+ in sales because she released a generic pop album.

And I don't even know why Taylor fans are so bothered. She praised Kendrick. The only reason I could think of is you all think he's a threat to her in AOTY or something. There's a good chance neither will win.

I think it's because most Taylor fans don't listen to hip hop. They found the whole T-Swizzle thing with T-Pain cute/funny. And her collab with B.O.B. was safe and listenable for them. And you're right about the AOTY thing but she was paid dust by the academy this year and last year as well. Red lost to Daft Punk last year on AOTY. They should at least be happy that she will most certainly snag nominations for best pop album and best female.

Your fave is worth more than that and if that's all you focus on might as well ask for a job on their label. Just enjoy the music. sometimes i want to listen to some good bops without having to think too much...so i go to Rae...and then there are times when i want to be preached to and schooled...so i go to Kendrick

we appreciate both artists for what they offer...they balance out each other

Basically. That's why the stan culture needs to die. People's priorities get screwed. They don't even enjoy the music of more than one artist.

I hear you. Perhaps I should have worded it differently. The kids who only listen to that stuff and don't care for lyrical content wouldn't appreciate Kdot, Nas, Immortal Technique or anyone else who has some actual things to say. I listen to non-serious/fun hip hop too. I can only listen to these guys (RS) randomly or when I'm in the mood. Urban Radio plays them all day and it's too much for me.

I couldn't agree more. It's great to support your faves and be a fan but the super Stans annoy me. It's why I didn't join any fan base until this year because they were purists. "you can only like this artist and owe allegiance to them only". And then when your faves beef and you "have" to choose your main one . Kids **** these days. Back in the day Britney vs Christina wasn't that serious. We'd put our faves' album in front of other people's at the store and THAT was it. We wouldn't bully or harrass other fans on THEIR turf but rather ignore the **** we didn't like. Plus, watching Celebrity Death Match practically solved any real beef fans had cause we'd laugh our asses off with that ****.

I have always liked a lot of artists. And more often than not I'll be rooting for more than one album/song/artist to win. This year for AOTY I was here for Bey, Beck, and Sam. Next year IF they're nominated I'll be here for Kanye, Kendrick, D'Angelo, Adele (if 25 drops), Taylor, and any of my other faves. Plus, it's a great sign when you have multiple talented artists in different genres dropping good music. People bitch about ****** music, they also bitch about lame nominations, and then they bitch when they're faves get real competition up against them . I rather go broke buying music and have to wonder which of my faves will win an award than see ****** nominations and have no new good music to buy/listen to.
