Sugar remix should've had that new production for the entire song, a few new lyrics and Nicki with two verses or her verse before the bridge. Would be more successful.
Yes the label should've probably put more effort behind the remix. While as I said I did not hear the song, Nicki would not have been to blame. If the song was basically unchanged as everyone is saying except for a verse by her, there just wasn't enough difference for people to justify spending another $1.29.
"The reason we originally called the song "OctaHate" is because they used an octatrack. In fact, it was actually first called "Octaloser," as sort of a self-deprecating joke thing. Then we eventually changed it. The idea of "octa" means so many things numerically—it was also about hate, and at the time of writing it I was sort of hating someone. Pain and love are pretty close together. "
Also, Walk Out The Moon and SUAD will probably be this year's Fun., Kings Of Leon, Bastille... aka 'one cute hit and that's it', so don't get too excited.
Fun. had three hits. And who cares? They're smashing with a really good song.
The "Sugar" Remix with Nicki Minaj ranks at # 305 on Live Pop Bars. I don't know if the "Uptown Funk" Trinidad Remix was ever released for sale, because it has never shown up on the charts, nor does I-Tunes show it as available. I'm not sure why they'd want to hold it back when it's available for streaming and airplay.
So remember how I was warming up to it yesterday? I heard it on the radio today & changed my mind a bit... back to hating it. It was already annoying me on the radio.
Clearly I'm going to have a bipolar relationship w/ it.
