Too many people here have convinced themselves that because they are gay, they can't be sexist or contribute to the marginalization of any other minority group for that matter. Being a gay male does not exclude you from benefitting from living in a patriarchal society.
There are countries where women still aren't even allowed to drive cars without a man, own property, and are legally allowed to be physically abused and raped in public and these incidents rarely receive much media attention, because we've already been conditioned in the back of our minds that women are subordinate anyways.
So yeah, it's pretty ****ing lame to me when I sit here and listen to a bunch of gay white boys whining about how hard their lives are because somebody kicked sand in their face for wearing a rainbow t-shirt to school back in high school.

It's really not a competition.
And you can hide being gay to save your life, but women can't hide being a female in countries where they basically have no rights. I mean, when a young girl can get punished severely for being raped FFS...come on.
But of course, the white gay men here think they have it worse then everyone.
It's not a competition and all statements like this do is take away from the real fight for social equality.

What she's saying is that the gay rights and the black rights movement has moved along faster recently than the movement for woman rights. She's talking about the movement for rights rather than the actual rights. It's not the same as saying women are more oppressed.
Seriously, comprehension.

Saudi Arabia is a gay haven, what are you talking about? Homosexual activities are pretty common there because of the segragation of the sexes. Homosexual behaviour is generally tolerated so long as you keep quiet about it. Gay men enjoy the same rights as any other men while women don't have any rights whatsoever. There are far more women who have been executed for being raped than there are gays executed by their anti-homosexuality laws.

This is SO ****ing true.
I was watching a documentary about where in Afghanistan on Thursday nights before the day of rest, women aren't allowed to be in the streets and men are allowed to freely go out and hook up with other males and it isn't viewed as "gay". Being men, they're allowed loopholes around these anti-gay laws regardless of their orientation. Women do NOT get any sort of these type of benefits.

That's what I was trying to say. You can hide your sexuality not your gender or skin color.

All of this is entirely true, but... is any of this what Madonna said? Unless her words have been seriously misquoted or decontextualized, she's clearly talking about women's rights as they relate to a rich, famous white woman in a country like the US. Women in the countries you are talking about aren't worried about being able to date younger men or flash their boobs past 40 (which ultimately are petty issues compared to what PoC and transgender people go through), because they're worried about the crucial issues you've mentioned.
Overall oppression olympics are stupid, and none of these groups (which often intersect, of course) are on good footing WW. But what Madonna has said sounds utterly self-absorbed and ignorant (though the same is true for many posters in this thread), because it doesn't sound like she was even thinking about women on a global scale.

Some of you need to get your facts straight.
It's very rare to get "executed" for being gay (or black) in any part of the world so I don't know where that fake statistic about "thousands" of gay men getting killed came from. In fact, in the vast majority of the countries where one can be jailed (not executed) for homosexuality like Singapore, those anti-gay colonial laws are never enforced. When it does happen, like those men jailed in Morocco and Egypt last year, it's a rare occurrence pushed by a political agenda and the men are released pretty quickly. Like another poster above said, they can live relatively comfortable lives. They're just not protected by the law and they keep quiet about their lives.
On the other hand, rape, getting beaten, underage prostitution, sex trafficking, abuse, etc. involving mostly women is very common all over the world (yes, in your country too) and the scary thing is that it's the norm. No one views these things as an on attack on women and their rights when it obviously is. Like others pointed out, these things occur because of the mentality people have surrounding women. They're not valued and when they are, it's under a condition (mother, sister, wife, etc).

I disagree with her. And I'll bet she just alienated her core fanbase, which is a shame because without them she has nothing. She has no commercial backing, no critical support. All she has is her legacy fanbase, and if she continues making outlandish comments like this one she will just ruin her chances further. This also doesn't sound like the words of someone who is living for love.
