I only comment on those who comment on mine, so...
I actually meant to respond to one of your posts.
If your throat burns after singing then your technique is wrong or you're pushing your voice to hit notes it doesn't do naturally/easily. Singing should not cause any burning sensation at all.
I had the same issue when I was younger. My advice: if you're serious about singing then get a teacher.
A vocal coach is absolutely essential for anybody taking singing seriously
My problem is that I'm just a poor college student
My advice would be to hire session musicians and just get in a studio and have them and the engineer produce your songs with you.
I've worked with just a producer a few times now and been ripped off because they charge a lot but only will spend a certain amount of time on your project for the fee they charge and I've often been left with tracks I wasn't satisfied with or even unfinished ones
Realised that when I uploaded this video that the thread was dead so I never posted this here.
But since it's alive again I'll post it now
This is a song called Nicotine, I wrote it to tell the story of a woman I once knew who had a very extreme smoking addiction (like 40 a day) and suffered severe depression and when diagnosed with illnesses related to smoking she just carried on smoking and smoking etc and it was because she didn't see any reason to stop and live longer for.
Anyway yeah, bit of a sad song but when I've been performing it I've had really great responses with people telling me the song has inspired them to stop smoking and I even received a fb message a couple of weeks ago by somebody that said my song inspired them to stop telling me they had been smoke free for 3 months!
So yeah, here it is
1. I love the guitar chords! It's very catchy and guitar strings are my favorite sound/instrument
2. The melody caught my attention at :39
3. I love the fact that you're actually telling a story in your song, and you still made it catchy
4. I wasn't a fan of the chorus, but then again, this is just a live performance, I would love to hear how it sounds in studio version with background vocals, etc.
Overall the song is good and original. Do you have a full songs? I'd like to hear

I don't have a studio version of that song yet but I have some others here:
apart from "Nothing To Lose" all the studio recorded tracks were written when I was 16 so don't judge them too harshly
and Thank you! I often try to tell story with my music, I'm a big fan of country music and this song is definitely straight up country. It was inspired by a country singer Brandy Clark who has a very direct approach to story telling in her songs that I tried using for this song. Glad you liked it

Dude, "Nothing To Lose" is ****ing amazing
Right from the beginning when I heard your vocals explode in, I was like wow lol it's amazing
The chorus is ****ing catchy "Yeah we're saying Goodbye to this lil ole town that we grew up in, that we grew up in"
I'm glad you repeated "that we grew up in" twice in the chorus. It's little things like that make it catchy. Great job! 👍

Thanks! I really love how that song turned out with the production. It sounds exactly like I always heard it in my head, like a country/rock anthem kinda thing
I want to get a vocal coach but I'm embarrassed of my singing voice and I'd be afraid to sing in front of them... lol. They'd probably just say, "You can't sing anything!"
...
Trying to write some things but I keep putting it off.

When did you record that song and how was the recording process?
I'm ALWAYS nervous once I enter the studio. I sit down for a bit and make sure I'm comfortable and then once I'm in the booth, I do a few warm ups to get used to the song lol

It's been proven that singing is a learned skill that gets better with practice, I'm sure no vocal coach would turn you down and criticize you like that!
I am so much better now than I was when I was 16, every vocalist gets better and stronger with time so don't be shy to reach out for help to improve if it's what you really wanna do

Are you ever nervous when recording a song?
I never feel nervous. For the quality and the musicians needed to play the instruments to get a song sounding like "Nothing To Lose" it costs quite a lot so I'd been saving up for the recording for a while and the song took me 2 years to finish writing and even then it was a couple of months after I finished it that I recorded it so I'd lived with the song for quite a while and had a very clear vision of what I wanted.
Saying that, actually with NTL I was a little nervous about the falsetto notes because my falsetto control isn't too great sometimes and I was scared it might not work but it did! Generally I don't feel nervous.

I really want to, but... yeah. I'm not sure. I don't really see myself as a singer anyway. I don't really aspire to be a singer. Mainly a songwriter and producer.
I'm sorry but this thread is such a clique sometimes.
I post 2 things and not one person can be bothered to say anything about either things but y'all jump all over each other's things. And its not the first time its come across like this either.
I just think it kinda defeats the object of the thread and is rude. Even if it was some criticism (granted its constructive) at least you said something, ignoring the posts is just dumb.
I mean, to be fair, I have no idea who the Young California guy I was replying to was, and I'm not friends with Clark or anything (I don't even know how I know his real name)
Why does music cost so much money? It will be at least a year before I could even afford like the cheapest studio for the minimal price, and even more than that before I could afford a vocal coach. But one thing I love about not being classically trained is that I was able to develop my own voice/sound that's unique yet still sounds good. I don't ever want to just sound like anyone else so I'm actually completely fine not taking lessons.

Only a choir vocal coach would try make you sound a certain way. You need a vocal coach to train you to sign correctly and safely so that you can keep singing in your 40s and 50s instead of burning your voice out!
Since starting getting lessoms my voice has improved so much! I can sing for hours and hours without getting tired now whereas before after 45 minutes my voice got tired. My range has got bigger and I just understand the science of singing a lot better which is important.
I understand what you mean about it being expensive though. I work 2 jobs on top of my college commitments to afford to live and singing lessons weekly etc

Yeah, the music industry is defintely expensive. And on top of studio time, you still have to pay producers (if you can't make beats), to Copyright your song, register it to a Performing Rights Organization, your website, and don't forget promotion.
That song you heard of mine cost $1,500 to make lol and that's just ONE song but good thing I have a well paying job

Here it is So far, I've gotten 10 positive reviews and none that are negative of this song from friends and family. But I think they're tryna be too nice. I hate my voice. Remember, it's an URBAN RAP song.
