Whenever I'm online, I listen to music and browse the internet. I've noticed that I can read articles or other complex scientific stuff online and grasp it all, all while listening to music.
When reading a book however, the music is a total distraction. I've even tried to listen to classical or ambient music while reading books, but I just can't do it. I need total silence, just me and my book.
I think that reading a book is different because I need to get into it, create the images in my head and so on. Whereas reading online doesn't require that visual aspect. I'm just reading for knowledge, therefore the music doesn't really affect my visual area.
What do you guys think on this?

My attention span has gotten so bad lately that it really helps me to listen to music while reading a book. Music distracts me just enough to keep me mostly focused on reading and from getting distracted by anything else if that makes sense.
But my memory is weird now. My short term is terrible so I almost always immediately forget what I read (even if I'm not listening to music) but my long term memory is great and I almost always remember everything I read a day or two later. It's weird
