The reason traditional pop albums don't sell is because the "current" artists of the genre are nobodies. Tony Bennett isn't some jazz nobody lol, of course he will sell. Especially with that kind of promo schedule + the help of Gaga. People with names (Tony, Michael Buble, Barbra etc) will obviously sell.
So please, stop throwing the 'it's a jazz album!1!!1!' excuse out there.
I think what they're trying to say is that C2C performed relatively well within its genre (so did Ultra).
It was kind of a dumb comparison to begin with, though.
UV is still so much better than BTD. If she blends the accessibility of BTD with the solidarity and quality of UV on Honeymoon she's gonna be on top of everything.
The UV era would've undoubtedly gone better if she actually did promo for it. Like she didn't perform on TV for it once All she did was a few radio/magazine interviews.
Hopefully she has a better mindset going into the next era, cause apparently she was very rebellious to the label (not that I ever want to her to change her ideas to please the label) too. And before UV, it was no secret that she didn't know exactly where to go with the album but she seems to be a lot more clear on what she wants/wanted with Honeymoon.
Wow, can't believe white america got it wrong this time
It's really not. I'm not being hyperbolic at all when I say Wonderland is genuinely one of the greatest songs to come out in years. It has a very timeless sound.
