btw ayu was still selling well until 2010, it's not her fault the physical market is crashing

also, I do keep up with current acts, but I don't really stan for anybody that can't put on a show and release good albums.

my argument was that at her peak she sold more in a year than the entire hallyu wave put together.
Why do you want to completely disregard her legacy, there was music before 2010 you know. She has 15 years of career and is still releasing music and doing arena tours every year. Now show me which k-pop acts have accomplished half of this.

what even. How is 10 years not long? She release an album every year, all she did was adjust her music. She's been trough synth-pop, trance, ethereal, rock, and so many more stuff that I can't describe.

Actually the two reasons she lost popularity are:

• She never stopped working, so she was always everywhere for so long, which at last ended up generating overexposure.
• She had a lot of scandals which are intolerable by the japanese public.

Sis you are forgetting that when ayu came up people literally forgot about namie's existence.
She flopped and underperformed from 2000 until 2008 when she made her comeback with BEST FICTION.

Namie's resurrection actually deserves a lot of props, but I don't know how it invalidates ayu's success... If ayu was younger she could be having her own comeback, but since she didn't begin that soon like namie I don't think the a public as ageist as the japanese will give her a chance.

Exactly, she flopped because of her scandal but was able to adapt & solidify her place with the new generation of artists. That's what differentiates a legend from a teen pop star running on her last minute of fame. A Beyoncé vs. Britney tea.

P.S Namie was 31 in 2008, I would hardly call that "young" especially in the J-Pop market.
